"black please Mama-lay" I squeal as we stand in the aisle of hair dyes.
"black? but that's so dark! how will your hair go back to white after?" mother asks nervously. she loves my hair colour, but I don't, you can see the dirt so visibly.
"mother, don't be silly. I don't want to go back to white. black is nice" I smile warmly at the worried woman. "new school, new hair I suppose." she smiles weakly.
"or do you just want me to get red hair dye, mother?"
I smile as I pull a strand of my mother's hair teasingly. "nonono" my mother chuckles, 'im just worried you'll regret it" she sighs,
"but you're almost 15 and finishing middle school very soon, you're not the little baby I found in the forest all those years ago. black hair dye it is!", she picks up three boxes and walks, determined, to the counter.-on the car journey home-
"mother" I mumble quietly as I fiddle with the boxes of hair dye. we travelled an hour from home just to get the shop where we had spent an hour deciding which dye was best, the car ride home had so far consisted of music playing, not much talking except for mother asking whether or not I wanted pocky sticks, I obviously said yes, to which she then told me to message Auntie Ragdoll and get her to buy me some on the way home. I messaged Auntie Ragdoll immediately and asked for the pocky. but now I wanted to talk to mother about something serious.
"hmm?" mother subconsciously responded.
"do you think of me as your daughter?" I mumbled quietly. she then quickly pulled over the car and turned to look me straight in the eyes. "now you listen here Okuri. I love you more than I think I could love a child related by blood, wanna know why?", I nodded slowly, "because you were a surprise, a miracle, a gift, which is why I named you Okuri. you are my little gift. you came to me and gave me the love I didn't even know I needed okay. think of it this way. you're blessed with your quirk, the way I'm blessed with you.", she smiled warmly as she kissed my forehead. "I think of you as my daughter, as my friend and as my little miracle. now what brought this question about? was it my comment in the store?", I nod slowly again. "Okuri, I only meant that as you don't need me the way you did then, you don't think the same way as then, you don't need protection from things I think will hurt you in the future, I love my daughter, I love you. now let's go home", and with that said she pulled back onto the road and started driving home. halfway home I got a message from Auntie Ragdoll.Auntie Ragdoll
