It is a common enough though that fairies exsist because we believe they do, that some how our imagination is creating mythic woulds and that we ourselves are projecting our fantasy personas into that reality, where we are in a constant battle of good and evil.
If I told you this was as true as Santa is, you might look at me funny but the idea is the same, we want so much for there to be a kind and generous person granting wishes that we sometimes feel compelled to take action. Foolishly, joyfully over spending on gifts, suddenly possessed of a great generosity uncommon to our generation. A passion for tradition and loss of the need for acknowledgment that comes with what is known as knowing.
A kind of confidence that comes from within that spreads as an infectious smile and a mischievous glee. This is what playing Santa does going from a gift giving obligation to embracing the spirit of the season.
All seasons have their own spirit we see them, the enchanting spring couples to the Midsummer feastables where wild things gather and the goblins of the fall. Each flourishes in their season and they cross over and interact with eachother in a myriad of magical ways. These souls live for the times their able to shine, to break free from their mundane obligations and dance until dawn. CINDERELLA Stories one and all, artists and entertainers, all awaiting there ball.
Here and there you'll find those who don't turn back into a suit, Who's wild eyes see creativity everywhere those who make a life they can be themselves all the time these become the ones who keep the spirit alive for the others, a beacon.
Not all are kindly spirits who support their fellows many are Bad Fairies or Evil Queens who seek an audience, they enchant us with their events and they gather great numbers to them.
Some mean well but too many take advantage of another kind of Fairy. These are less common then you may think as they are the most well known right from pages of a children's story your fabled Fairy Godmothers are here. These can not help themselves they gather things that people may need and are drawn to service as if the need for help was somehow a part of their being. The pull is almost uncontrollable. While they may not seek to volunteer they are almost unable to say no to requests for help as its who they are.
Often collectors of things that could be used, restores and rebuilds who can't seem to bring themselves to charge what their work is worth. Their posts may read "Free to good home" and you'll find them working long hours without thanks to ensure that balls take place.
The Goblin Kings who run the largest events find them then forget them. The most deviating thing you can do to a fairy godmother is not need them. More then that to forget them while the need is great brings them physical pain they can't bare to watch others suffer. To be aware of the deficent between what's possible and what is, to seek to bridge that gap with effort and often a kind of magic that defines them to others. A special kind of resourcefulness that sets them apart in real life as well.
Even the most mundane can see them. Their torn from the so called normal, they can't watch things be thrown away, They'll rebuild a gown others thought was beyond saving because they felt it could live once more - that there would be someone to love it. As if the potential alone is worth saving the inheit value or soul of the thing speaks to them and they often know just who will love it.
For there is no greater joy then finding where something belongs. Gor them to be discarded is to be destroyed, its devastating to their fragile fairy spirit because they need to be needed, like Santa Spirits there is no need for reginition their fortitude grows with the need, they excel in the keeping things running under pressure at doing tedious long hours and at always finding a way but to be shut out to be dismissed or unwanted is to have their light put out.
Once darkness sets in they either fade until something rekindles them drawing them back from depression or darkens them completely making a bitter jaded one who seeks to gather others to prove their worth, while draining it from others. The once bright background spirit is darkened and needs to spot light because they've lost their own light. They remain haunted by those who hurt them and so feel entitled to hurt others.
In the battle for good and evil they justify this as fare as it happened to them. Cruel truth is it is never fare and that one can not keep score. That fairy godmotherism is a curse, that one must find their own cause or mission such as spreading holiday cheer and stay away from CINDERELLA!
Tradition would have you believe that one should help Cinderella reach her ball and find her prince so they live happy ever after. This has two major draw backs, there are always people who claim to be Cinderella and there are those who woukd never admit they just want to go to the ball.
So save yourself some heart break. Focus, don't forget the forgotten fairy! This is your story... if your waiting for a fairy godmother to save you while your working yourself to death for someone else: you might be a Fairy Godmother in Cinderella's shoes. You so need to be needed your own identity your power is being tapped by someone or something else.
Find your wand, your crown, your wings and go to the ball yourself. Sure turn some mice into coach men if you need a ride, bring a spinster or two as long as they aren't wicked. Go with your circle dance until dawn and dont let those goblin kings make you forget their kingdom falls with out folk like you.
Believe in yourself above all else.
Yours Truly,
A Former Fairy Godmother
