2016 | NEW YORK COAST — "Steve, can you hear me?" Natasha screamed in panic into her communicator, hoping he could still hear her or Tony.

He flew both of them out of the base as soon as the two heard the explosions and went to rescue Steve, yet there was no trace of him or the girl he said was with him.

"STEVE!!!!" Damn it! Something must have happened to him, she thought. The entire base was filled with dark smoke everywhere, making it hard to breathe. The smoke was so painful, it still stung natasha's eyes.

She was glad to be out of this hellhole and as soon as she was outside of there, in the fresh air, she could finally breathe properly. "Stark, did you find Steve?" she coughed still weak from the smoke. Please don't let him still be in there, she thought.

"No, according to FRIDAY there is no one from our team in there anymore." Tony explained when she heard more explosions in the background.

"Get out of there. Now!" she ordered and was more and more afraid of losing one of the two. Fury will kill me, if one of his favorites were gone, she thought.

She continued looking for Steve and searched the area around her, along with reinforcements from other SHIELD agents. "We have to find Captain Rogers before it gets dark."  She ordered the other agents who went looking with with her.

Shortly afterwards, Stark contacted her, he told her he had brought the most important things to the Quinjet, but still had no trace of Steve.

Tony came flying towards her in his red and gold Iron-Man suit and I turned to him. "He's nearby." He said and looked in the direction of the coast. "FRIDAY says Cap's tracking transmitter is a little damaged because of the water, but she thinks he's close."

They both stayed together and kept searching this coast until they finally got a stronger signal. And after not too long, they finally found him lying on the ground and Stark and Romanoff ran towards him with speed.

"STEVE!!!"

"Hey Cap, come on buddy. Please wake up." Tony said as the two knelt down and tried to wake him up.

"We found the captain!" she shouted into her communicator. This must have brought him back to consciousness somehow, because he blinked slightly and shortly afterwards he coughed the remaining water out of his lungs.

He sat up carefully and Tony and Natasha supported him  carefully. "Are you okay?" They asked in unison.

"Where did she go?" He asked, still not fully conscious. Was he hallucinating? Who is he talking about?

"Who?" Tony asked, equally confused as Natasha.

"The girl." He coughed and tried to get up. "She- she saved me." Natasha's gaze shifted from Steve to Tony and saw an expression on his face that was also surprised and confused. Was this the ... mermaid? It can't be. Oh god I'm starting to sound like Tony, the woman thought.

"Stark, you take him to the Quinjet." The spy started and slowly got up from the two. "I'm trying to find the girl." She said and with that she ran towards the forest. "Agent Romanoff here, to all emergency services: We have to find a girl, she should still be around here. Target is most likely scared and likely has special abilities. Please be careful!"

She kept running into the forest to find the girl when it suddenly started to rain. Great, she muttered to herself.

But just as it was almost completely dark, she saw something behind several trees, so she crept closer. And just as she assumed, it was the girl. Her hair and her dress were still soaked from the water and the cold rain had also added something. The poor girl shivered and was probably scared to death.  A few hours ago she fled from Hydra and now had to continue to hide ...

Natasha walked carefully towards her and suddenly she stopped. Was she about to attack me? She thought.

Carefully the assassin put her hand on the belt, with her gun and prepared in case the lost girl tried anything.

Instead, however, she turned to Natasha and gave her a frightened look. The tears in her eyes slowly rolled down her cheeks as more and more rain poured down on the both of them.

Natasha looked into the stormy blue eyes of the girl and Instinctively tried to calm her down. She couldn't explain it, but she felt a strong empathy towards her. "I'm not going to hurt you..." She began. "My name is Natasha Romanoff, you saved my friend." Something was strange, she thought she was going to run away from her, but why didn't she run this time?

Natasha waited for her answer but only got a small nod from her. Was she just scared or was she unable to speak? Natasha thought. "We can help you." She tried to calm her down. She didn't know why, but somehow she felt great compassion for her. Maybe she just reminded her of someone...

"You're freezing. We can give you warm clothes." Natasha looked at her and hoped she would let them help her. She must have been injured and needed medical attention. It was the least they can do. After all, she had saved Steve.

"Please come with us." She asked and held out her hand to her. The girl was probably scared and Natasha wanted to show her that they're not one of the bad guys. Or the monsters, she used to fear.

The girl hesitated at first, only staring at her hand for a moment until she looked back at her and gave her a small sad but grateful smile and carefully took Natasha's hand.

Maybe it was a sign for peace, the girl thought.

"To all agents: I found the girl. We're going to the Quinjet." she spoke into her communicator, while the girl looked up at her, confused. "just told a few friends that we're coming." she assured her, walking in the direction of the Quinjet.

As the two woman made their out of the woods, Natasha noticed that the girl was quite shaky on her feet. She must have been pretty exhausted. And once they were at jet, Natasha helped the girl inside.

She carefully placed her on one of the beds on the jet and kindly wrapped a warm blanket around her shivering shoulders. Natasha's attention was only focused on the girl, but still she felt several glances watching the two of them. "You can start the jet." She said and ordered the pilot to drive off.

Carefully she then sat down next to the girl and explained her what will happen next. The girl seemed to have calmed down over time, but then she suddenly pointed towards another bed where someone was sleeping in. "He's not dead." Natasha assured her, looking from Steve back to the girl. "You saved his life." She smiled thanking her.

"He'll be alright soon ... but you'd better rest too. You can lie down, I'll keep an eye on you. And if something is wrong, you come to me, okay? If you're afraid, you can come to me." She assured her, making sure she was listening.

The girl thankfully nodded, and with that she got up to talk with Stark and the others about the current situation.
