*Riley POV*

Since Dean had discovered Riley's secret, he'd gone to great lengths to avoid her. After four days of awkward silences and looks of hurt and betrayal, Riley had broken down and ended up telling Sam everything. At first he'd been upset with her for not telling them straight away, but he'd soon forgiven her. Dean however, found it hard to even be around her. Sam had made her promise not to keep any secrets from them, no matter how scared she was or who she'd promised. Especially if it involved any of them. Riley agreed and spent the rest of the day thinking of how she could tell them something she'd been keeping from them since day one.

One day, Riley walked into the motel to find the brothers had found a new case. Sam had had a dream about Dean killing a man tied to a chair and this was enough for them to pack up and head to River Grove in Oregon. Riley had debated giving this case a miss, but Sam refused to leave her behind. To her surprise, even Dean had claimed that it was too dangerous for her to stay behind by herself. So Riley joined the brothers in River Grove. The motel was the same as always, two double beds with a tiny kitchen area and cramped bathroom.

They decided to take a walk through the town to see if anything unusual happened, but everything seemed mostly normal. That was until they passed a telephone power post and Sam spotted the word CROATOAN carved into it. He then recalled the Roanoke Colony.

"The what?" Dean looked between Sam and Riley.

"The establishment of the Roanoke Colony was an attempt by Sir Walter Raleigh to found the first permanent English settlement in North America." Riley explained.

"Got it." Dean nodded his head.

"The word croatoan was used as secret code word of sorts." Sam said.

Dean looked blankly at his brother and Riley pressed her lips together to hide her smile and Sam rolled his eyes.

"Read a book every once in a while, you might learn something." Sam said. He turned around and continued walking up the street. Riley glanced at Dean before following Sam.

"I read!" Dean called after them.

They continued walking down the street in search of the man from Sam's vision. As they got further into town, Riley started to feel uneasy. People around them seemed to all be in bad moods and becoming increasingly violent. Riley stood closer to Sam.

"Is it just me, or is everyone around here unusually angry?" Riley said in a low voice.

"That's what I was thinking." Sam nodded.

Riley pulled her phone out of her pocket and sighed. "No cell service."

"I don't think there's any means of communication here." Sam shook his head.

"Alright, you two keep looking for this guy and I'll see if I can find some help." Dean said quietly.

Sam and Riley nodded and continued walking through the streets. Sam quickly came to the conclusion that the town's residents were being controlled by some sort of demonic virus. They stuck to the shadows and avoided contact with anyone. Sam pulled Riley into an alley and they watched as a middle aged man beat another man, leaving him for dead.

"Where the hell is Dean?" Riley hissed, pressing her back against the wall as another  resident passed them.

"I don't know, come on." Sam said, leading her out of the alley and down the street again.

Not long after, they found Dean again and he explained how the only road out of town was now blocked by a hoard of gun happy residents.

"So we're stuck here now?" Riley said.
