She was 21.

In love.

Studying to become a lawyer.

At what many would call the peak of her youth.

Everything in her life was going according to plan,

Until it wasn't.

Until she was standing in that bathroom

The plus sign on the stick glaring back at here

The Walgreens bag in the corner frantically overturned in an act of desperation

Hands trembling as the truth hit her like a truck

One of her hands,

Still shaking,

Reaching down to place a tentative hand on her belly.

She wasn't alone in that bathroom.

My mom was 21 when she found out she was having me.

21 when her life got flipped completely and utterly upside down.

This was never meant to happen, they had been careful, right?

And now she had to learn to be a mother

All while keeping with her studies

This was never in the plan.

I think, what I find most inspiring and beautiful about my mother

Is that she never hated me for it, it would have been easy for her to.

It would have been easy for her to hate me,

For ruining her plan

For making her go through something she wasn't prepared for.

But she never did.

To this day,

She calls me her miracle baby and

One of the most beautiful things to happen to her.

And even though she thought she wasn't ready

Wasn't cut out to be a mother

She's the best one I could have ever asked for.
