Annabeth.
14 years old.

The edge of my shirt was stained with blood. I focused on my sleeve, removing it slightly from the guy's forehead to see how fast the blood came back. He didn't hit his head too hard. At least, I didn't think so. But heads liked to be dramatic and bleed more than necessary.

"You've been to juvie?" The guy asked, looking at Cam. "Never been myself."

Somehow, he managed to appear as if he cared zero percent about the gash on his forehead. On the plus side, the bleeding was slowing down. I pushed my sleeve against it again, harder than I needed to. This time, he winced which was good. My dad told me if someone couldn't feel pain, to run away from them because they might be on something and if someone was on drugs, they were harder to predict.

I was on my tiptoes to reach the guy's head but my legs started to ache so I went down onto my heels, taking his head with me. He seemed, like with everything else, to not care about having to bend over.

"I just got out," Cam said threateningly, "I don't mind going back if you're fucking with us."

There was a scuffle and when I looked over, Alex was standing in front of Cam to keep him away.

Finn laughed and his face transformed into sheer amusement right in my hands.

He was the strangest thing I'd seen.

Either he really didn't care about anything, or he thought he was tougher than Cam.

I glanced a few inches below his injury to his pale blue eyes that I'd been avoiding ever since he introduced himself. They were light, frosty, a barely there chilled sort of blue that I hadn't seen before. But they were so warm when he smiled.

Suddenly, his eyes were staring back at me.

"Hi," he repeated yet again.

I glared at him because I didn't understand him and I didn't want to associate with anything I didn't understand. That got you killed.
