- About 1 year later
"Commander Sadies, sir! Cadet Eva Jaeger has been doing unauthorized modifications to military equipment" a random soldier informed Sadies. "Again."
Keith Sadies sighed, disappointed.
The girl had the potential to be a fine soldier. She excelled in all domains of military training. Except one. Following simple orders.
She was not rebeillious in nature — Eva Jaeger selected very well and very cleverly which orders not to follow. But doing so during the yearly assessment of the different branches of the military did not seem like a good choice for the young cadet.
"Bring her in, would you?" requested Sadies.
It was the beginning of the second year of military training for the recruits of the 104th Cadet Corps, and to celebrate so, they had been forced to march for three long days in the snow, until they reached the base where they were now, ready to be evaluated by the leadership of the Military Police, the Garrison and the Survery Corps.
Eva Jaeger was thus brought into a room, that she knew was filled with all the Officers. Her eyes were fixed on Commander Sadies, not wanting to look around her as she dreaded to find him.
But even if her eyes didn't directly encounter him, her body knew perfectly well that Lance Corporal Levi was in the room; his eyes almost drilling holes in her body.
Eva didn't want to admit it, but the way he had left her in that kitchen roughly a year ago still haunted her — she felt that she had done something wrong, yet she had no idea what it could have been. His eyes had been so conflicted. It hurt just to remember it.
She felt unworthy. And she hated it.
So she had decided that her interactions with the said Captian were going to be kept to a minimum. Preferably, she would avoid him at all costs.
Eva did not want to be hurt. And he had the power to hurt her.
"Cadet? First, where is your coat?" a confused Sadies questioned.
Eva tried to steady her breath and stop her jaw from trembling. She was cold as fuck.
"A-A fe-fee-llow cadet forgot his jacket, sir" she explained, "so I le-leeend him mine."
"Are you stupid, cadet!?"
"No, sir! I am Eva Jaeger."
"Who forgot his jacket?" an angry Sadies questioned.
"..."
"Answer, cadet, it's an order!"
He was going to fine sooner or later — the other instructors will surely reflect it in their reports, so there was no point in covering for him.
"A-Armin Arlert, sir."
"The blonde boy from Shiganshina!?"
She nodded.
"AGAIN!? Didn't he do the same with the rain, and you also lent him your raincoat, Jaeger?"
"Y-yes, sir!"
"Anyways, Jaeger... Modifications?" the chief instructor sighed. "Explain yourself."
"Yes, sir!"
Eva was prepared, she knew perfectly well this was coming her way. She reached inside of her bra —the bandages she wore as one to be precise, to pull several documents and sketches that proved her point.
