December 13th, 1892: Alina's reputation was rising, bringing the attention of one General Slate. He became quite interested in her, having much respect for how effective of a soldier she was. But it was around this same time she fell in combat. Adam didn't know about it at first, which worked in Slate's favor, insisting Adam join them on the next deployment in her place, since he was just barely to 'the age' where he could. He was only about 14, but looked old enough to pass for 16.
Thus sparking The Wounded Knee Massacre.
Slate, Adam and his men arrived to their destination, set up a little bit outside of the village of Wapiti, but they had a few run ins with local Native Americans beforehand. In one such encounter Slate put Adam on the spot to kill a captured local, with Adam being unable to. Slate's men thought of him as a coward and a sympathizer, but that quickly changed after the following night.
Before heading to sleep for the night Slate had a private meeting with Adam, where he informed the man of his sisters fate, also including the detail of her being killed by a Native American. This set off something in Adam, something that couldn't really be contained: he was now all alone, no family, nothing. Thus he let out his rage in the only way he thought he could.
Adam Shalashaska indiscriminately and brutally murdered everyone in his path, earning him nicknames like "the White Engine" and "Ocelot". But after it was all said and done he left the battlefield a completely broken mess, leaving the military and going off on his own once more.
