"Look." She said quietly. I followed her eyes and, peeking through the thick trees that now engulfed us, I saw the outline of an old house. It was shabby - most of it had already fallen apart.
"You think this is it?" I said, unconvinced. She groaned, leaped over the smallest part of the rushing river, and motioned me to follow.
"Nu-uh. I'm not doing that." I said, stepping back.
"You were the one who wanted to do this in the first place." She reminded me. I paused, and then leapt over the river after her, stumbling on the edge. For a moment, I thought I was going to fall in, but Violet leaned over me and gripped my hand. She yanked me up, then proceeded to walk forwards, holding my hand tightly.
And then I saw it.
The house was located on a point - an intersection - of two streets. One of the streets' name's was Right, and the other was Wrong. An intersection between two opposites.
"Violet...I think you've found it."
"I think so." She responded. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I say a flicker of movement from one of the distant trees.
"Vi..."
"I saw it too." She whispered.
"Let's go," I said, and we crept away slowly. That was, until, a man moved around the tree and started walking towards us.
"Run!" Violet yelled. She gripped my hand - we leapt over the river and started sprinting down the street, our hearts racing, the man walking faster and faster behind us. We ran as fast as we could, my legs aching from the lack of exercise I get, and looked behind us repeatedly.
"We have...to keep...running..." Violet said in between breaths. We'd made it halfway down the long street - it seemed stupid that no police were patrolling after the murder almost a week ago, but that said, there was no one on the streets. The lights in stores were out - people had their shades closed and their front doors locked already.
"Police station!" I said. I was running out of strength, and the police station was the nearest safe place I could think of. Violet made the next right, the man in black getting closer to us by the second. I could see the small lights in the distance, representing the station. I tripped over a pothole in the road. The man took this to his advantage - he pulled out a gun and pointed it at me, ready to shoot. I started screaming for help and covered my face with my hands.
"Nooooo!!!!" Violet screamed behind me. I looked around and saw her running towards me, her hands outstretched, tears streaming down her face, and throwing herself in front of me...
