The creatures that Lilac was looking at were actually called Mole-Spiders. Lilac's dad would always tell her about them. They were given the name Mole-Spider because they dug holes underground and created sinkholes to eat their prey. More often than not, new caves would pop up all over the Kingdom of Fire and these bastards would ruin crops and eat livestock right under everyone's noses.
The worst case scenario would obviously be them hunting down people and to Lilac's surprise that nightmare is coming true before her eyes. One thing that Lilac did know about these things is that they hated loud noise. These creatures don't have the best eye-sight and they love the dark. Needless to say bright lights also bothered them. They either do that or feel their environment for anything familiar, like a scratch mark carved into a tree. Lilac needed to use their weakness to her advantage.
Lilac picked up a rock sitting nearby and threw it across the field hitting the side of a tree. It made a thump sound and one of the spider's glanced at where the rock was thrown at. This didn't fully grasp it's attention and the spiders continued toward them. Sol looked up at Lilac while he was still pulling Ella up "Do you have any better ideas?!" Sol asked. Lilac couldn't answer him.
One spider was going faster than the rest and it made its way to them before the rest could. Lilac swung her hatchet and ended up cutting off one of its legs. This didn't seem to stop it from trying to bite her. Before it could Lilac quickly swung her hatchet into its head, killing it instantly. "Back off!" Lilac said as she pulled the hatchet out of its head.
Lilac's loud words seemed to have grabbed the attention of every spider coming for them and the arachnids picked up the pace. To make sure the spiders paid attention to her she made more noise and started running away from the hole. "HEY IDIOTS! COME AND GET ME!" Every spider's focus was on her now. She glanced back to see if any stray spider was still going for the hole. To her relief there wasn't any but the hardest part had just begun.
Lilac had to keep the spider's attention on her while running as fast as she could. Of course the best thing she could do was yell at the top of her lungs. "SCREW YOU! STUPID EIGHT-LEGGED FREAKS!" She said as many fowl things as she could think of. Although the insults meant nothing to the spiders because they could have just responded to anything.
Lilac couldn't outrun them forever. Her best bet of surviving would be to climb up a tree. She jumped and grabbed at the nearest branch possible, hoping it would support her weight and not snap. Luckily it didn't and Lilac hauled herself up as fast as she could. If she slipped now it would be all over.
The spiders were already below her and started to make their way up. The tree's base wasn't big enough for every spider to go up at once but Lilac could only climb up so far before there wasn't anywhere left to go. Climbing up one branch after the other, Lilac broke off one small branch that had a pointed end on it. One spider tried grabbing at her leg but Lilac kicked it in the eye.
She proceeded to use the sharp branch to stab it in the head. That spider died and fell onto the other spider that was below sending them both down. That gave Lilac a little bit of breathing room. Lilac could just barely tell what was going on in the field but it appeared that Ella had just made it out of the hole. She could see Ella hand over the fugitive prince a sword and for that moment Lilac's heart sank. She thought that he would just stab her sister while she was stuck in a tree fighting oversized arachnids. Instead he headed towards Lilac to where she was. Lilac took her hatchet and slammed it into another head of a spider coming for her. That was another one down but the entire tree was swarming with them.
She can now see Sol at the base of the tree she was in. One of the spiders she sent down was now attacking him. "Hey! As soon as you see my sword light up, jump to the other tree!" He yelled at her from the bottom to make sure she heard him. "Why?!" Lilac yelled back. "Just do it!" With that said the spider pinned him to the ground ready to bite his neck.
