It was the first day of freshman year. Marley was dressed in a black, flowy dress that came to right above her knees and a pair of sparkly black flats. Marley is a pretty girl aside for the crooked teeth and acne. She isn’t very tall but she is really skinny.
Normally she got excited for the first day of school but ever since two summers ago she dreaded having to go back to school. She was scared of being judged. She just wanted to go through one school year without being noticed. She had one year left before she could go live with her dad and get away from her bitch of a mom.
She was walking trying to find her next class. She was looking down at her schedule to remind herself of what class she was going to. When the bell rang she began to get nervous because she still hadn't found her class. She turned a corner and before she knew it, she was running into someone. Marley dropped the notebook and schedule in her hand.
Embarrassed she picked up her stuff and apologized to the stranger she had ran into. As she turned to walk away, the stranger grabbed her arm.
“Where are you going?” he asked. When she turned around, her breath was taken away by the sight of the person standing in front of her. She was amazed at how picturesque the boy in front of her was.
“Uh…” she stuttered, looking down at her schedule, “ I have math…”
“What room is it in?” he asked her.
She points to her schedule because she is at a loss for words.
“Would you look at that” the beautiful boy said “We are in the same class. Why don't you follow me and I’ll show you where it is.”
“O-okay.” Marley stuttered.
“I’m Chevy by the way.” He stated with the sexiest grin on his face.
“I’m Marley.” she replied softly.
“Marley” he said, testing the sound of her name on his lips “That’s a beautiful name.”
“Thanks” she said very embarrassed.
They walk to class in silence. As they walk, though, Marley notices that Chevy keeps glancing at her out of the corner of his eye and smiling.
Marley can’t stop thinking about how perfect the boy walking next to her is. He is tall. He has beautiful blue eyes and curly blond hair. Marley keeps wants to talk to him but she doesn’t know what to say. Thankfully Chevy breaks the silence.
“You look really pretty today Marley.” he says sheepishly.
Blushing Marley says “Nobody has ever called pretty before…”
Chevy gets a very stunned look on his face. He could not believe that the beautiful girl standing next to her had never been told she was pretty before. In that moment Chevy felt something that he hadn’t ever felt before. He wasn’t sure what it was but one thing he knew for sure was that Marley was the reason he was feel that.
Once they got to math, Chevy spent the entire class period thinking about the strange feeling he felt after Marley had said she had never been called beautiful. She was the most beautiful girl that he had ever seen. He wanted to do whatever he could to make her smile. To make her know how beautiful and special she is.
The bell rang to signal the end of the class period. Marley puts her things back in her backpack. As she stood up to leave, she felt a hand on her shoulder. It felt like electricity.
When she turned her head she saw Chevy and she swore her heart skipped a beat.
“What’s your next class?” Chevy asked sweetly.
“I have lunch.” Marley says quietly.
Chevy’s eyes got this beautiful sparkle in them. “I have lunch too” he said excitedly.”
Marley smiled softly. “Thats great.” She says contently.
“Can I walk with you?” He asked shyly.
“Sure.” Marley answered, kind of excitedly.
Marley and Chevy walk to lunch quietly but Chevy can’t help but glance at Marley every five seconds. To him, Marley was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. He wanted to do everything he could to make sure she knew it to. He just didnt know how...
As they walked through the line and got their food, Chevy asked “What’s your favorite color?”
Surprised by the question, Marley had to take a few seconds to figure out what he was asking her. After thinking for a few seconds, she answered “Blaze orange.”
“Why blaze orange? Why not just orange?” Chevy asked quizzically.
Marley smiled and said “Blaze orange is what I wear when I get to go kill shit.”
With a shocked look on his face, Chevy said “You hunt?!”
Marley giggled and said “Yup.” and smiled.
Without thinking, Chevy blurts out “That’s hot.”
Marley cheeks turn deep red. She couldn’t fathom that the cutest boy in the school thinks she’s pretty.
“Oh my god! I’m so sorry.. I didnt mean to say that out loud...” Chevy apologizes quickly.
“It’s ok, I don’t mind.” Marley answered happily.
Marley was starting to think that this year wasn’t going to be as bad. Chevy was the main reason for that. But Marley was ok with that. He was something to look forward to everyday. A reason to smile. He gave her purpose.
