Chapter Eleven

Harley's P.O.V.

There's a new kid at school. It's a He, a boy. I think I'm the first to meet him.

He looks down at me from his excruciatingly tall height. His voice is deep as he asks, "Hey, do you know where," he looks down at his new schedule, "Mrs. Howard's class is?"

I look up from my locker and get a glance at his striking features.

He has bright blue eyes. They're almost white because they're such a pale blue. He also has longish raven-black hair, which drastically contradicts his pale skin tone. Note that he has a deep voice and is extremely tall, maybe 6'4.

He's also attractive, physically. He's tall and lean, but with muscle. It's lean muscle, which makes him even hotter.

He's also dressed cool. He's wearing black skinny jeans with a gray, fitted T-shirt with the logo for "The Nightmare Before Christmas" on it. He's also wearing black converses.

I realize I'm staring and manage to squeak out, "Yeah," before I go quiet, due to shock and awe. He's honestly a hot guy.

He does an adorable half-smile before he shakes his head and continues, "Do you think you could show me?"

"Sure." My voice sounds higher than usual, which makes me seem even more awkward than I already am, however possible.

He follows as I scuttle my way to Mrs. Howard's English class. "So," I say, trying to make small talk, "what's your name?"

He ticks his head to the side, swishing his bangs out of his face for a moment before they fall back in place. "It's, uh, Phoenix."

That's a freakin awesome name, honestly. I nod my head and reply, "Well... my name is Harley."

"Oh, like Harley Quinn?" he asks while glancing at the other students as we pass by. That makes me smile. It's nice to know you've got DC Comics fans here (nerd reference).

"No, sadly," I say as I open the door to Mrs. Howard's classroom.

Grey is sitting in her usual spot, waiting for me. I sit in my spot, letting Phoenix speaks to the teacher before choosing his seat.

Unfortunately, Mrs. Howard wasn't the most subtle of people. With a hidden smirk, she announced, "Well, alright, Mr. Faust. Sit next to whomever you think is cutest."

Phoenix Faust. Cool name, honestly.

But Mrs. Howard put a lot of pressure on him. He looked around the classroom, like he was searching for someone specific.

His eyes landed on me.

He comes to the empty seat next to my seat, coolly taking a seat and setting down his stuff on the desk. I can't help but blush. My face is as red as a tomato, and I see Grey eying him. She looks at me and mouths the word, "Woah."

*~*~*

Lunch isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Marvel, still unaware of what he did and how it affected me, is keeping his distance. Grey is sitting with her sister, who seems to be all bandaged-up. I wonder what happened to West...

Evangeline is sitting with her friends, the hipster-druggies. And Devon Collins, or DC, is with Marvel. It's not weird, considering they're best friends.

And that leaves me. All alone. Again.

But I don't care. I mean, it's only human nature that we desire a companion, even a platonic one, to which we can share our thoughts. But human nature is overrated. Right?

I stare at my lunch. This morning, I was lazy. So I packed a lazy lunch. I'm now staring a large carton of Flavor Blasted Goldfish Crackers, my favorite snack, and a half-empty bottle of Dr Pepper.

I shrug my shoulders like I don't care and shove my hand in, grabbing a handful of the delicious snacks that smile back (Goldfish Crackers slogan), and pouring it into my mouth.

"Hungry much?"

I almost choke at the sound of his voice. I pull my hand down and look up at him. It's Phoenix!

"Oh. Uh... hey," I say, trying to play it cool. "Yeah. I was tired this morning. I didn't pack anything but Goldfish."

"I can see that." He sits himself down next to me and casually flicks his head, swishing his raven black bangs out of his face.

I smile and tuck a stray hair behind my ear. I look over at him and notice that he's staring. "What?" I say bashfully.

He loosens my hair from my ears and says, "You shoulder your hair be free. It's cute that way."

My face goes completely red, and it's hard keeping focus when his hand skims over my cheekbone as he pulls his hand back.

It feels actually sort of... comfortable being around him. Like, he's a good friend.

I mean, he's an obvious flirt. But I'm just not over Marvel. So that's a no to Phoenix. Oh, he's gonna be so unaffected by the FriendZone. He'll probably go find another girl if I don't fall for him.

But, eh. We're just friends now. I guess we'll have to see where this goes.
