A girl had found her way into my clearing. She seemed around my age, as I assessed her. Short and kind of loner-ish, wavy brown hair, blue eyes, and baggy clothing. I recognized her from the halls of school. I'm pretty sure we had a class or two together. She seemed in awe of me, and the wind shifted finally allowing me a whiff of her scent. She smelled part wolf, part my kind. Suddenly a sound made her turn away, a growl sounded out and she backed into the clearing before she fell. An unknown wolf was in our area. All normal wolves knew where their territory ended and ours began, and all knew that if entering was needed, to come in peace. This one seemed oblivious, untamed, and most importantly, unaffiliated with the packs around us.

I walked up to the girl, who was now terrified and unable to move, releasing a growl of my own. Attacking humans was unacceptable anywhere near our territory let alone in it, and I was determined to protect her. Unfurling my wings, the wolf took a huge step back, realizing his mistake. I wasn't a normal wolf. I belonged to the ancient tribe of the moon goddess, we are the peacemakers between packs and humans alike.

I crouched down to her side, showing off my teeth. "She's mine." The wolf took another step back, and another, till he turned tail and ran.

Examining the girl for any damage, I noticed she was rather pretty. Not in a normal model type beauty either, more like she had some kind of charm to her. Feeling weirded out by these thoughts, I shook my head and started to walk off. I'm not one for romance. Half way across the clearing and taking my time, I heard a muffled gasp and a heavy thump of something- or someone- falling to the ground. I sighed, my suspicions being confirmed. I didn't want to believe it, but she really didn't know of our kind. She was startled by me and fell in shock. I walked back to her, looking her up and down again. The moonlight made her glow slightly, peaceful in slumber and probably exhausted from a long day. As far as my memories recall she really was a loner. Smelling her again her scent seemed awfully familiar to me. She smelled wonderful. My eyes narrowed and I linked the alpha.

"Alpha. I think Lilian's daughter is here. Get a hold of her immediately ."

My eyes flashed back to her and I couldn't help but feel a strange attraction to this halfblood, for surely that's what she was. Nothing more than a half-bred mutt. Coming to a realization, I shook my head vigorously. I was never to have that luxury. Still, I gave in to the bond and laid next to her until her mother arrived, enjoying her comfort. This was never to be, and I could never let these feelings grow, but still. She was my fated, regardless of the rules laid upon me, regardless of my past, the moon goddess sent her to me, and I to her. With that thought I snuggled closer, sharing my warmth as the night chilled, eventually encasing her in a wall of fur, a wing wrapped protectively around her. For now I'd like to enjoy this moment, possibly the only moment I'll have with her like this.

Once her mother arrived, a Calvary of three other wolves in tow, I was shot numerous dirty glances. The only one who didn't look down upon me was Lilian herself. She was a kindhearted soul and would never let someone's status speak for themselves. Instead she shot me a thankful glace as I got up, unwrapping myself from the girl. I was reluctant to do so, but I couldn't let them know. They'd take her from me, never let her see me again. I would break apart if they did that. The elders were cruel like that.

She thanked me with a nod, her wolf slightly smaller than mine but nonetheless powerful. She was a light grey, like soot residue, her eyes a piercing icy blue. She nodded her head to the three guards, letting them know they weren't necessary. They looked hesitant at first, their eyes growing hard and stances ready to argue. She told them something over the pack link, clearly in a snapping tone at the way they flinched back and eventually flew away reluctantly.

She took the final few steps to us, finally opening her maw to speak verbally to me. The mind link was another thing I wasn't aloud, only being capable of speaking with the alpha.

"Thank you for protecting her while I was unable. It seems you're quite found of my daughter" Her voice was musing, smile playing on her wolfy lips.

My face blank, I just stared back at her. I was use to keeping a poker face, and I couldn't let her see she was right. She was kind, yes, but could I trust her to not tell the alpha about our bond? She was my mated, my fated, she was mine and I was hers. Every wolf of my kind knew of the importance of this link, and the alpha along with his council would be sure to do everything in their power to keep her from me. In their eyes I was a monster.

"Don't mention it. Just following pack rules." I responded gruffly. Though it pained me, I walked away from them. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Lilian get her daughter slung over her back and walk slowly away towards their home. I wonder if I'd see her tomorrow at school. Even if I couldn't get to know her personally without raising suspicion, I could keep an eye on her around school. With a final huff, I walked back to my cabin to change and get some sleep, it'd been a long night.
