Resistance

Prologue

"Kai! We need to get out of here, we can't win against him! This is the one fight we won't win! Please let's just go!"

I looked over to see the love of my life bruised and bleeding with a terrified look in his eyes. The fear evident in his wavering voice as he looked up above me begging me to leave. "I can't just leave now that we know the truth, we need to resist this and move forward. Turning back now would mean everyone we love will die! The world below will end and nothing virtuous will ever survive."

"Kai if you don't leave you will die!"

"I'm willing to make that sacrifice, if it means saving everyone."

"No Kai! You might be willing to make that sacrifice but I'm not. I won't lose you over this and l won't let you sacrifice yourself for a war we can't win."

I looked him up and down exhaustion setting into the both of us. The pain I could see inside of him was breaking my heart and the thought of never seeing him again killed me.But if the cost of saving the balance of good required my life as a sacrifice then it would be payed.

I gave him one last look and smiled at the memories of our lives together. I turned to him with tears and told him one last time. "I've loved you for a millennium and i'll love you for a millennium more."

Before he could react I rammed my blades into his hands keeping him pinned to the ground which he kneeled. I gave him a kiss and picked up his own blades.

"What are you doing?! Don't do this Kai! I will never forgive you, I can't live without you!"

"You will just have to live for me." I said with a weak smile. Just as I turned away from him I was met with a blow to the head that sent me flying through the air. I crashed on the ground hearing the harsh snap of a bone breaking.

"Kai!"

"For your betrayal to me I shall make you suffer in front of your other half. Better yet why don't I just end your wretched life right in front of him."

"No! Please take me not her!"

Everything suddenly moved in slow motion. I saw the end of the wretched unholy blade coming towards me. The sight made me sick and i prepared for the end. I saw a flicker of movement and suddenly was met with the most beautiful set of fiery eyes. A wave of comfort washed over me and then panic as I realized this meant he would die too.

Before I could react I felt the blade piercing through our hearts.

"Oh well, looks like a lover boy couldn't stay out of the way yet again. On second thought death isn't a good enough punishment. So let me make you a punishment suitable for your treachery."

We looked at each other with fear knowing that whatever he had in store for us would not be good.

"Ah! I have an idea" he reached down with a twisted claw and ripped my love away from me. " I shall banish both of you to the world below and you shall forget either existed and shall only know the pain of heartache! Lets see how the water and fire spirits handle being out of balance for the rest of eternity!"

Suddenly we were flying through the air. No Not flying. Falling. Fast. I summoned my swords to my side and looked over at my love trying to reach for him but failing we both reached out for each other but were unable to reach.

"Throw me your sword and catch mine!"

I looked at him terrified. Doing as he said. Throwing one of mine to him and catching one of his.

"Kai I love you, you damned woman!"

Suddenly we were whipped away from each other falling faster and faster. I screamed out for him.

"AY-"

Cold. I felt cold and wet. I opened my eyes only to be met with the blinding sun. my lips chapped and my back aching. I slowly leaned forward and looked around. I was on some kind of mush surrounded by water. I looked forward just in time to see a wall of water rushing at me. I panicked and stood up quickly running backwards and falling over. I looked to my hands to see two swords in my grasp. One had water coursing through the blade the other looked to have embers in it. I looked around in confusion. I saw a woman approaching me frantically.

"Are you alright sweetie?! You're bleeding an awful lot. We need to get you to a healer quickly! What's your name?

I looked up at the woman confused at her notion.

"Well ma'am im- im-" I looked out onto the horizon not knowing what to say. I looked back to her with tears in my eyes. "I don't know who I am."
