chapter one

Chapter one 

I woke up like every other day. I grab my clothes, take a shower , go to wake Iris, get her  ready for school, then rush her to the dining hall where everyone with a child is eating breakfast. After she is finished it's off to school with her. 

While she is gone I go to work at our in door plant nursery. That's where we grow vegetables and fruits since we want to be extra careful lately because the wolves patrols have gotten more frequent. The only time the raiders go out anymore is to Hunt deer or elk. As I was check our patch of strawberries, I feel arms wrap around me and kiss my cheek. "How are you this morning ,my love?" Erik asks me. 

I smile and lean into him. " Good. Just checking on the plants and watering them before going to write the report to give to your sister." 

He groans at the mention of her. He and sister always fighting whether it be one thing or another. I honestly don't know what's up with these two. But I guess it's normal for siblings to fight.  I know me and my sister don't but we're not normal. " What now did you and your sister get in a fight again?" I ask with a smirk on my face , knowing the answer. 

"Yes! This time it was about how I should be helping the raiders prepare for the next hunting trip. I have told her we are ready, we practice stealth and quickness every day. We even practice are hunting skills almost everyday." 

He whines. 

I always found it cute how he and his sister get along. She acts like a bossy mother while he acts like the spoiled child. It was adorable.  

" When's the next hunt anyway?" I ask him. 

" Tomorrow night. We're running low again though our backup food will be good for another month or so." He explains. 

The speaker went off calling everyone to the cities center. Erik and I walk hand in hand to the meeting and wait for everyone to get here the council members and his sister, the mayor ,I guess you could call her, were waiting on everyone's arrival except for the children of course. Once everyone arrived, Arika came in front of everyone and said good morning. 

" Ok, so first order of business, there will be a hunt tomorrow morning and that also means everyone stays in they're apartments except the raiders.  Second on the agenda is that we are constructing a tunnel to the other bunkers where the others are at . We are also building a hospital center and  a meeting center that way we don't have to stay in town square." 

Everyone cheers after she's done and she laughed. She love the people and wants what's best to help them survive. When the crowd disperses I smile at Erik and turn and kiss him. He laughs but kisses me back. " Promise me you'll return safe?" I said in a worried tone. 

He looked me deep in the eye and touched our foreheads together. " I promise." He whispers before kissing me. 

Hours have passed and I was time to get ready for tomorrow. I was back in the small apartment me and my sister stayed in and pulled out my sisters and my clothes out and put them in the bathroom. Then I got some projects ready to entertain us until the raiders get back. I finished just as my sister walks in and sits on the couch. "Iris, it time to get ready for bed . We have a long day ahead of us." She groaned at first but then she complies and gets into the shower to get ready for bed. Once she's in bed I read her favorite story to her and tuck her in. I shut her door and sigh. At least she didn't ask about our parents like she usually does. I head into my room take a shower then hop into bed and read until my eyes feel heavy. And then let darkness consume me.
