You weren't enjoying your summer. There was nothing to do in your small town of Belleville, you were still grieving over the death of your dad and you had no friends (being the shy, anxious girl that you were) so you had no plans.
Your mom calls you down for dinner and some exciting news that she has been waiting to tell you.
"Y/N, come down for dinner, please!" You heard your mom yell from downstairs.
"Okay, I'll be right down," you yell back.
"Alright!"
As you walk downstairs you see your mom preparing what looks like a fancy buffet.
"Wow, all this for me? Are you kicking me out or am I hallucinating?!" you exclaim.
"Of course not honey!" your mom laughs. "This is just very exciting news."
"Okay, so let's hear it," you say.
"Alright... So I know you don't like getting into unexpected things. But you need to branch out and meet new people so I signed you up for a co-ed camp in Ottawa!" she says somewhat apprehensively.
"WHAT?? NO, MOM! Also, that's so far away!" you yell. I can't believe she's shipping me off to camp you think to yourself.
Your mom takes a deep breath. "Listen to me Y/N, you're really over exaggerating. Please, just try this once."
"I'm fine Mom, Belleville is great and I have a good life right now." You say desperately, even though that couldn't be farther from the truth.
"Y/N, when your father was a little boy, he did boy scouts. And he attended Camp Woolsey, and I wanted to see if you would see for yourself how much you could enjoy it," she says.
You reconsider. "Fine. Only if it's for Dad."
"Thank you... I hope you enjoy this camp and we're leaving at the crack of dawn on Sunday. Ok? So get packing."
"Ugh, fine." You storm out of the room, having suddenly lost your appetite.
How could she do this to you, using your grief against you so she could get you out of the house? You can't believe her. You can already tell, you're going to hate camp.
