The sky of a thousand stars

I gazed up into the stormy skies, my breath coming in short ragged bursts. I regarded the storm, the small, faint lights of the dying embers of the city flickering before me. Out of the tempest, I saw a figure, it's outline barely visible beneath the snarling, overpoweringly vast sky, its endless beauty as ragged and split as a dark secret. As my eyes wandered the tempestuous, endless ink of sky, more outlines became as clear as glass. Instead of feeling startled, I felt suddenly submerged in this incredible feeling of tranquility. It was more than that, though. As my eyes searched through the maze of darkened clouds, I felt relieved and all my tension melted away. As I closed my eyes, I felt like I was floating in a humble boat, only big enough for one. My eyes peered around at my surroundings and I realised I was drifting slowly through the gathering storm. I gazed down and saw only jet black clouds. Small seeds of doubt began to grow in my mind. Where was I going? Who was doing this? But, as sudden as a fever, drowsiness began to cloud my mind. I relaxed my head against the hull of the boat and let it take me away.
