When Sophia and John were far enough away from Samuel they stopped panting. They lay on the ground until they were able to catch their breaths and even then they did not talk. They just sat saying nothing to one another. Sophia was not surprised, John should loath her. She betrayed him and she was still wondering why he came back to help her in the first place. Shouldn't his anger drive him away? Why would he risk his life for her when he had the chance to escape? Before John could say anything Sophia stood to leave. She knew he was just going to send her away and this would make it easier for the both of them.
"Where are you going?" asked John.
"I am not wanted," said Sophia slowly stretching out each word as if it was obvious.
"Who said that?"
"I betrayed you. I gave you up to Samuel to save my own life. I am selfish and you should hate me."
"You did nothing wrong, anyone would have done the same."
"No they wouldn't. You wouldn't have."
"I dont know about that," said John with a chuckle.
"You are a much better person than I am. I deserve to die, but not you, you did nothing wrong."
"Why did Samuel choose you in the first place."
"He is my brother. My mom really did leave me but I have no interest in finding her. She found a man that said he loved her and got her pregnant, the very next day he left her."
"Why did she keep Samuel and not you?"
"She had no choice with Samuel, it was either she kept him or he died."
"That seems unfair."
It is, and I resent her for it. Having left me with a drunk for a father was a poor choice."
"Then why are we going to meet her?
"Before it was because Samuel was forcing me, but now it is because you need the number and I wont let myself stand in the way of something you need to do."
"That seems hardly righ-"
But never the less it is true. Now I have some questions for you."
"Like what?"
"Why are you really out here?"
"Didn't Samuel already say?"
"Yes but not the whole of it. He told me why he was here to kill you and what I needed to do. That was it though, he kept it pretty vague."
"Yes he did," and with that John jumped into his back story not missing one detail of it. He told her everything from Mary to Annabel and even then some.
"So what about the numbers?"
"You knew about that?"
"Yes Samuel said that you had found some numbers on the back of Annabel's chair but he could not find out what they meant."
"I think Annabel left them for me, to guide me to Samuel."
"Isn't that vague?"
"Yes but I trust Annabel knows what she is doing. It is like she set everything out for me ahead of time, even you."
"What about me?"
"You are the first number. On the first night when you told me your back story I asked for your age and you said 18, the numbers were 12 18 and another that I cant figure out..."
"Really? So all this time you were using me as well?"
"Not using you, more of you were guiding me."
"Where was I guiding you."
"To your mothers, and now it all makes sense. You mother is Samuels mother, so there should be some clue hidden there."
"But you didn't know that before I told you."
"But that was the only thing I had. I tried to look for more clues on you but I just couldn't find any... So I followed you hoping that the clue would be where you were."
"That leaves me with one more question."
"What?"
"Us..."
"What about us?"
"What are we going to do?"
"Let me ask you this."
"Alright."
"Do I love you?"
"From what you said yes, unless you were lying."
"But I was not. Now do you love me, or were you lying."
"No I was lying, Samuel made me say no because he said I was getting to close to you."
"Do you love me?"
After a short pause she answered, "yes I do love yo-"
But before she could finish John was on top of her kissing her so hard she moaned loudly in the back of her thought. Never breaking the kiss John went down to her neck.
"Sophia?" John asked in a pant.
"Mmmhhh?"
"Do you think it would be alright to get carried away for one night?"
"Yes I do," and with that John pulled his shirt off and continued into bliss...

They stopped when the sun was in the horizon and when the birds started to sing. Reluctantly the both got up and were on there way. This would have to be the last night before they made themselves noticed by others. This would be the last night they have to stay in the solidarity of the woods. Tomorrow they would have to pose as civil people and try to find the next piece to the puzzle.
"John?"
"Yes."
"What if one of us does not make it?"
"What brought this on."
"I was just thinking of our trip into town tomorrow. What if something happens and we are forced to lose one another."
"That wont happen Sophia, we are just going to talk to your mother and I will be with you the whole time," answered John in a low voice that almost sounded like a growl.
"But what if it is inevitable."
"Then I would follow right behind you."
"And of course you know I would do the same, but we cant."
"But why?"
"Johnathan one of us has to finish Samuel. It was the whole reason for being here in the first place and to give up each others live's would be a waste."
"Sophia you know that I would follow right behind you."
"Of course I do but just promise me that you will follow through on your plan if anything does happen. For me?"
"Of course, but only until that is done and after that you cant keep me away. But first you must promise as well."
"I promise, now can we please eat?"
"Yes..."
