cassandra "cassie" black: a rising phenomenon in the wizarding (and muggle) world by gina skeeter

the first time i met cassandra black, she almost ran me over with a car. i can remember it perfectly: i was holding a coffee in my right hand, tapping away at my phone as i responded to emails. i wasn't even on the street, instead, i was perched on the patio of a bistro, nibbling on a grilled cheese. and then, out of nowhere, a huge yellow jeep swerves onto the sidewalk and nearly bowls me over. i can catch a glimpse of purple hair and a screaming "suck my dick, you fucking po po!" and then a howling "blackkkk!" shouted after her as flashing police cars rush by.

the second time i encounter cassandra black, she's being arrested. she's chatting up the officer's in a smooth voice, and i can only catch a few of her phrases. it's like she knows them personally, and as she asks about their spouses and children, a tired grin splits across each of their faces as if they have preformed this routine enough for it to become funny. they lead her away, long violet hair swaying behind her, and let her leap gracefully into the back of their cruiser.

when i hear of her again, it's as i stop to listen to the music streaming out of my twelve year old daughter rita's room. the tune is loud and bubbly and the lyrics are completely nonsensical, but at the very end of the song, a familiar voice screams "c. black, out! hope you enjoyed the show!" and then to herself, "that was fucking exhausting, somebody get me a fucking taco!" and then, as someone hurriedly reminds her she's still live, cassandra hurriedly adds, "oh shit, don't curse kids! wait dang--" and then the broadcast shuts off. when i ask later, rita eagerly explains that cassandra is now a rising pop singer under the artist name "no❤️."

by the time i officially meet cassandra for an television interview,  she's sixteen and her hair is red and gold. when i ask her why, she rolls her eyes at me and says as though it's the most obvious thing in the world "it's the gryffindor colors for the superior house, duh! and mom, if you're watching this," she sticks up her middle finger, "fuck off."

cassandra black is one of the most peculiar people i've ever met. i think she'll go far in this world, with a kick ass and take-no-shit attitude.
