I was helping my twin brother Sam pack our bags and bring them to the door. My family was a special circumstance, since my mom was a Greek demigod and my dad was a god, we stayed in a newly built apartment building during the summer. I was so excited, because as soon as I got back home to Maine, I was going to go to a slumber party thrown by my mortal friends. Hopefully this would help me forget the conversation I'd overheard.

"Serena, quit daydreaming and help me!" Sam said as he plopped a stack of suitcases in front of me. "Jeez, what were you thinking?"

I blinked and picked up the bags. "Shut up, I don't see you exactly being productive,"

He rolled his eyes and walked out the door. I scoffed and did the same. After I put them in the trunk of the shuttle, I noticed my mom talking to Annabeth and Percy. Casually walking to the big house, I came up with a plan to eavesdrop on them. I wanted answers for various things. Turning around, I crept up behind them, careful not to make the grass crunch under me.

"...I just hope she takes it well. She already-" My mom abruptly turned around and smiled at me. Crap, how come she always knows?! I stiffened.

Okay, relax, and act casual. "Hello...." I said, my voice starting out about three octaves higher. "How's it goin'...."

They all laughed. "Wow Vicki, she's just like you!" Annabeth said. What's that supposed to mean?

"Okay Serena," My mom started. "How about you go spar with you cousins? I just have to talk privately, okay?"

I nodded and left to get my sword. Dammit! Why are you so obedient?! Argh!!! My twin brother was rebellious, my younger brother Mark was outspoken, my older sister Natasha was a "natural born leader",Ugh, why am I so shy? Around people my age, I'm fine, but around adults, I'm mute.

I went to our summer apartment, found my specially made one-handed sword, and brought it down to the training arena. There, I saw my cousins on my mother's side, Hallie and Eric, sitting around, bored.

"Hey," I said as I walked up.

Eric looked up. "Hello."

"Wow, what a great conversation," Hallie started sarcastically. "Right there, you practically ended it."

I rolled my eyes. "Well excuse me, for opening with a greeting!"

Eric snorted as he twirled the tip of his sword in the dirt. He has a gladius, just like his dad, the legendary Jason Grace. All the adults say they look alike, but I really don't see it. Eric's hair is dirty blond, and almost covers his eyes, while Jason's is clean looking.

"So..." Hallie continued, ignoring my comment. "Whatcha doing here? Saying goodbye?"

"I'm saying goodbye later, you don't get special treatment," I scoffed. "Anyway, my mom told me to come spar with you guys."

"All of us?" She said dubiously. "Two against one?"

"Sure, why not?"

They got up and readied their weapons. Hallie had a determined look in her eyes, while Eric rolled his eyes as if to say, Let's get this over with...

Hallie laughed. "Oh, you are so going down! I've like, never been beaten,"

"Have you seen me fight?" I scoffed. "When I'm done with you, you'll be on the ground cry-three two one GO!"

I leapt forward and slashed at both of them in one swipe. Hallie protested and swore and called me a cheater, while Eric just shook his head. The fight was getting really chaotic, and I was blocking and smacking anything that came my way. Eric made the mistake of trying to sneak up behind me. That was an amateur move when dealing with me.
