There were subtle differences between Earth and Eden. Eden had a few creatures that were unique to it's echo system. Beatbane and werewolves were only two of them, other's included The great stag in the Aurum Forest. It's golden antlers were said to create light where darkness moved and pierce the veil between living and dead. Many hunted him for his power in order to visit with loved ones lost. When you'd never lost anyone before it was easy to wonder what would compel someone to destroy such a majestic life. When you've lost everyone it's easy to be tempted. Ky's desire for the antlers wasn't a secret, in fact it was common knowledge that Ky was on the hunt for the elusive beast. Contrary to what some people believed, it wasn't to meet with those he had lost or to make amends. It was to ensure that no one could.
There were the Phoenix who had gone into hiding in the northern mountains when Ky slaughtered the Gray Wolves. His ambition reached far and wide causing any creature or pack that was somehow linked to the light to retreat in fear.
The massacre had been a message, a massive one.
"I'm coming for you and I will be victorious."
In the last decade and a half he'd spent most of his time in the south squashing resistance. He needed a strong base before he could branch out to take over the rest.
My question had always been the same, however... What the hell was he waiting for? For the six to be ready? For me? For the gray wolves to come out of hiding?
He'd never admit it but there was a fear in his eyes when they were mentioned. To know that some of them had escaped and they too had been in hiding for years. Had they rekindled some of their numbers? Was there an alpha among them yet?
I'd give anything to see a gray wolf. It had been so long that their appearance was merely rumor. Did their coat really shimmer? What size were they? Was their howl really the purist you'd ever hear?
Gray Wolves were a symbol of hope and I hadn't had any since I could remember.
We'd switched over to Eden at some point when I was unconscious and I was happy for it. Jumping through a portal was like running into a solid surface except you never made impact. Your whole body is tensed for the collision and instead you're yanked in the opposite direction of your momentum. It feels like your organs are going to be yanked out of your ass.
At least now Claira would have a harder time tracking me down. The switch would potentially mix her up and she'd be at a safe distance. There was no way in hell they would have assumed we'd jump so quickly. They'd still be looking for me on Earth.
The goal was to move through the forest towards Aurum and cut across. It had been quite the debate at the last rest point. There was a pretty good argument thrown out that risking getting that close to Kristal, a city still run by the Golden pack, would be too risky. However, this argument was negated by greed.
Why not hunt for the stag while we're here. Think of the reward if we return the girl and retrieve the stag.
My best option was to lose them in the forest and make my way to Kristal. I would be safe for the moment there and someone was bound to have a way to reach my aunt and ensure her safety. Then I could rendezvous with her but first I had to find a way to escape this little expedition and the current warden of my prison... Axel.
He wouldn't take his eyes off me.
So there we were, hugging the cliffs to our left and the river to our right and I was plotting my escape. It was raining of course, which both helped and hindered my mission. Rain was a double edged sword if not used properly. It would slow me down while also hindering hindering them as well. The idea hit me when I saw two warriors duking it out ahead. Reiker interceded, a red fiery energy encircling him.
