the lake

A/N: It's SUPER hot where I live today and instead of doing my chemistry homework I'm just going to write this and pretend I'm in the lake country of Naboo! Enjoy :)

"Ani this isn't working at all, did you only tell me to do this so I would look dumb?" you asked your husband as you held your glass of ice water to your forehead in an attempt to cool yourself down.

"Maybe I did, maybe I didn't" he smirked, admiring you from across the room as he wiped away the sweat accumulating on his brow.

You had both been granted a week long leave from the Jedi Council for your services in the war, and your friend Padme was kind enough to let you and your husband stay at her house in Naboo's Lake Country while she was away. The weather was unbearably hot today, as if Tatooine's two suns somehow made their way to Naboo. Feeling too hot to do anything else, you and Anakin sat on the couches in Padme's living room trying to think of ways to cool down.

"We could go down to the lake" you suggested, already knowing what Anakin was going to say in response.

"There's sand though" he said, just as expected. You rolled your eyes playfully at him, trying to come up with a way to get him to come with you.

"I'm sure we can find a way around the sand. Come on and get changed, I'll pack a bag" you said, not really giving him a choice in the matter.

Anakin let out a sarcastic groan as he rose from the couch and into the bedroom to change. You went into the bathroom, grabbing a couple of towels before heading into the kitchen to pack bottles of ice cold water and some fruit, the perfect meal on a hot day like today. You joined Anakin in the bedroom, shuffling through your suitcase to find a swimsuit to change into. Once you were both changed, you grabbed your bag and headed down to the lake with your husband in tow.

The pair of you walked through the field of long grass behind the lake house in peaceful silence, enjoying the bristling of the grass around your bare feet and the harmonious chirping of the birds in the trees nearby. As you made your way through the field, the picturesque lake quickly came into view. The vibrant cerulean blue water was calm, light refracted off the surface of the water, making the lake sparkle like a starry night sky. A mother duck swam with her ducklings in the center of the lake, but the lake was completely inhabited otherwise.

"This is perfect" you said to your husband, who was also taking in the beautiful scenery before you.

"It's almost perfect" he said, gesturing to the space between the grassy field and the lake, a ring of sand that divided the two.

"Well we can just lay our stuff out here on the grass and go in the water later" you suggested, looking up at Anakin with an understanding smile. He nodded back, and took the bag from off your shoulder, laying out the towels for you to sit on and unpacking the food and drinks you had brought. You spent a while laying on the ground beside each other with your hands intertwined, allowing the sunshine to wash away all your cares. Wanting to cool off in the water, you sat up on your elbows, your movement catching Anakin's attention.

"I want to get in the water, will you come with me?" you asked him, and he too sat up on his elbows, gazing out at the lake before responding.

"I want to, but I really don't want to walk through the sand to get there" he admitted.

"Do you want me to carry you over the sand or something?" you joked, and you watched as Anakin's eyes grew wide, as if he had just come up with a genius idea. He slowly turned to face you, his lips pursed and his eyes looking into yours with an innocent expression.

"Would you?" he asked sheepishly, making you burst out laughing. You weren't being serious, but you really wanted him to join you in the water. You rose to your feet with an exaggerated sigh, bending your knees and leaning forward so Anakin could hop onto your back.

"You're lucky I love you, hop on" you said, and Anakin's eyes lit up as he too rose to his feet, hopping on your back and wrapping his legs around your torso for support. Although he was much taller and heavier than you, your years of Jedi training made it easy to carry him through the sand.

"I'm the luckiest guy in the galaxy" he said, leaning over your shoulder to plant a kiss on your cheek as you walked him into the water. Once the water came up to your mid thighs, you threw Anakin off your back and into the cool water, soaking him from head to toe. His now wet hair was matted down over his face, and he dramatically whipped it back, making you laugh even harder.

"Oh Y/N you are going down" he said, charging at you with his arms outstretched, taking you down under the water's surface with him. You both emerged from the water laughing, and Anakin gripped your waist, hoisting you up and spinning you around in the water before bringing you back down to his level, planting a sweet kiss on your lips as he did so. You waded in the lake for a while, the cool water hugging every inch of your body, providing much needed relief from the heat.

The time went by much faster than you anticipated, and you watched as the sun began to set over the lake, a beautiful blend of pink, purple, yellow, and orange hues painting themselves in the sky above. Anakin stood in the water behind you, his arms wrapped tightly around your waist with his head resting on your shoulder as you both watched the sun slowly creep down the horizon.

"Ready to head back inside? I'll make us a little something to eat once we get back" your husband said quietly, not wanting to disrupt the peaceful white noise nature was providing. You bent forward in front of him, reaching around to pat his leg to signal for him to hop onto your back once again. He chuckled as he did so, and you carried him back out of the water and cross the sand, setting him down once you reached the grassy field where your belongings sat. Anakin packed up the bag and carried it with him, intertwining his pruny fingers with yours as you made your way back to the lake house, the golden light of the sunset leading your way home.

You quickly jumped in the shower with your husband, washing away the mixture of sweat and lake water that covered both of you before changing into a light nightgown. Anakin made dinner as you lounged on the couch across the open living space, watching intently as he shuffled around the kitchen. He looked up at you, flashing you that charming Anakin grin before wiping his hands on a towel, carrying two plates over towards you. He set them down on the coffee table in front of you and took a seat next to you, grabbing you by your waist and moving you so you were leaned up against his chest, your legs tangled together. He handed you one of the plates, which held your favorite meal, and you gave Anakin a loving smile before enjoying your dinner, discussing your plans for the rest of the week with your husband.

"Today was fun, we should go back down to the lake again tomorrow, don't you think?" you asked, setting the plate back on the table once you were finished.

"Only if you carry me over the sand again."

"You know I will, Ani."

Hope you enjoyed!
