I woke up with a jolt sent down my legs. I tried to open my eyes, but they were glued shut, and i started to panic. I tried moving my head, my arms anything. Nothing happened. I had to calm down, I couldn't have a panic attack now. Deep breaths, Catherine, deep breaths. My heartbeat steadied and my tensed muscles relaxed. "That's it, try and relax", an unfamiliar voice said. I slowly debated whether i should talk to the strange voice, not knowing what it was capable of. Little tingles started running through my legs, making lose all feeling on my legs. Again, i try to move any part of my body, making no progress what so ever. Great. "No, no. Don't do that. Just relax and everything will be fine. We're almost done with the procedure. In just a few minute, you'll be feeling good as new, I promise." It said soothingly. I managed to slowly nod my head. Then I realized how I could manipulate the situation. The calmer I was, the more of my body I could move. I took deep breaths, I loosened my tense muscles once more and began to try and open my eyes. When I managed to open them, I was left speechless. I swear, I'm dreaming. I resisted the urge to scream and demand an explanation as to why I was underwater, breathing, and why I was tied to an operation table where i couldn't see my legs. Panic started to set in again, my breath hitched in my throat, tears threatened to spill and my heart was pumping a mile a minute. The room started getting darker.

"Wake up sleepyhead! The procedure is complete, but you might have fainted a little." a male voice spoke from above me. I opened my eyes and saw what I assumed was the doctor. He had kind eyes, a friendly smile and he seemed pretty young, mid 30s or something. "Where am I?" I asked hoarsely. I looked around and realized I could only see half of him. "You are in our special care facility". He answered nicely. "Oh, what happened to me? Did I die?" I questioned. He let out a chuckle "No dear, you are very much alive!" He responded lightly. "I'm Doctor Connors by the way." He said nonchalantly. "Wait, like, Spider Man Doc Conners?!" I squealed. "Oh goodness no! You humans and your superheroes." He said rather hotly. Wait, did he just say 'you humans'? "What do you mean by 'you humans?", I asked making a quotation mark gesture. "Oh that's right, I need to tell you something Catherine. I need you to listen well, and most importantly don't panic." He explained calmly with warning in his eyes. "Okay, I'll do my best." I said, worry surrounding my every word. "Catherine, a few hours ago, you suffered from an accident. You drowned. You're probably wondering how your still alive-"
"Wait, you mean to tell me that I fell off a boat, and DROWNED?! I'm a swimmer, it's what I do, I swim!" I paused, trying to make sense of everything, but I had a feeling that that wasn't the last thing he was going to tell me.

"Yes, that's exactly what I'm telling you. Now listen, there's one more thing that I need to tell you." He took a deep breath, while putting his fingers on the bridge of his nose.

"Catherine Blake, you're a mermaid" he spoke softly, as if speaking to a naive child, who doesn't understand the complex situation.

"I'm a what? No, no, no, no, no! I had a life, friends, family school, competitions!" I started hyperventilating, my heart beat increased, tears on the verge of falling. This can't be happening! Wait, he doesn't have proof that I'm a mermaid! Ha! I knew this wasn't true!

"You have no proof that I'm a mermaid. How are you so sure of what I am? What if this is just a dream?" I interrogated with confidence dripping off my voice.

"Valid points, Miss Blake. But instead of explaining this to you, I would rather show you instead" he said, smirk showing ever so slightly. I swallowed hard. Preparing for the worst. He moved over to where I was, half his body still invisible to me.

"Are you ready, Miss Blake?" He asked playfully. Slowly, I nodded, and he proceeds to uncover what I think are my legs. He slowly starts cutting whatever hides my other half, and in the pale light of the colorful room, I notice something in his skin, something that's inhuman. Scales. That's what's off about him. Oh my god, he maybe right about this. I may actually be a mermaid. I feel the last of the cover coming off and I'm afraid to look.

"Can I look now?" I ask quietly.

"Yes, but please, try not to faint." He says carefully. I take a deep breath, look at his scaly skin and carefully sit up. A little bit of pain comes onto my chest, it's a lot heavier than I remember. I grunt and manage to sit up. I feel like a melting Popsicle, and as I wiped my forehead, I didn't feel any sweat come off. After my small shock, I looked I front of me and almost passed out. He's right, I'm a mermaid. Scaly blue tail and all. Wait, that means that if I'm a mermaid, I'm underwater right now. No wonder nothing came up when I wiped my forehead.

"Are you alright, Catherine?" Doctor Conners asks with concern. I look at him, and manage a small nod and gulp.

"I just have one question. How do I get back to being human?" I ask, with a pleading tone. This can't be real, this can't be real, this can't be real. Oh god, how in the world was I going to get out of this one?

Writing a new story, I hope you like this small portion of it, I don't know if this is going to be a short story or a long one with a sequel, a prequel and make it a series. I really need some opinions. Thanks! I'll probably make a playlist for this too :-)
