My parents were fuming when I finally returned home,  unsurprisingly. I was going to get grounded for life, so here i was sitting on the couch listening to my parents lecture
"and running off just after you got back from god knows where, do you know how irresponsible that is, yes you made a mistake not calling us but what on earth were you doing Cassie?"

My mother let out a deep breath finally finished her tirade, i looked down at my hand, how on god's green earth was i going tell them this? My mother noticed my despondency and gasped, "you're not p..pregnant are you?"  she asked genuine fear in her voice, my dad's head jerked out of his reviere of just simply agreeing with mom. "no mom I'm not pregnant" I said shortly, my heart pounding, i could tell that the moment was coming, the moment where everything changed and i had to do it alone i was terrified, all the doubts and insecurities rearing their ugly heads. "But you can't be sure Cassie" my mum admonished " I may be older but i'm not an idiot, i know what a hickey looks like." she stated her arms folded. This was the moment, I could feel it, it was a strange mixture of dread, excitement and nerves and so I began.

"I guess I'll start at the beginning it'll make more sense that way, the day started like any other me and emma were laughing at a joke she'd made..." I looked towards my parents wondering what their reactions were but they were just staring at me passively, god this would be so much easier if i could just blurt it out, but they deserved an explanation, a real explanation.
I gulped nervously and began again. "Then everything changed, she walked in and everything changed, i mean she was wearing a three piece suit for god's sake!" I exclaimed not daring to look into my parents eyes, for fear they would hold hate against what I had just revealed. "I was awful to her at first, I couldn't understand how someone could be so different to me, but then we were assigned that project together and everything changed, her parents are scientists, so they're not the best with people, so she practically raises her siblings alone, and then she got to know me, the real me, the person i even hide from you guys  sometimes.
And then I realised I had fallen in love with her; that was terrifying and exciting and so I kissed her and she kissed me and then..." I blushed deeply "...and then she gave this hickey and she took me on a date, she made a picnic just for me... And...and I'm pretty sure I'm in love with her, so when you saw the hickey, I panicked, I'm so sorry, please don't hate me" I said quietly finally looking up from my hands, my parents eyes glistened with tears and for one horrible moment, i thought they hated me and then they threw themselves at me and swept me up in a bone crushing hug and i promptly burst into tears, when we all finally stopped crying my dad put me down again. "So you're okay with me dating a girl thing?" I asked still a little nervous "Honey" my dad began looking to my mom for support, she nodded softly. "We don't care who you fall in love with, just as long as they make you happy and keep you safe that's all we've ever wanted."

"you're still grounded though" my mom chimed in, "I figured, I am sorry for running off, it just all got so real and i freaked out" I chuckled "But, if Ellerie would like to come over, we'd love to officially meet her" My mom smiled "Yeah, i have to make sure she's good enough for my baby girl" my dad replied evilly " "daaaad" I groaned blushing furiously as my parents made plans to scare my poor girlfriend, I smiled softly they still loved me and they wanted to meet the girl who put a smile on my face.
