It was a cold fall day and I was walking home from
witch school. Most of the witches stayed there but I preferred to be with my family. As I turned the corner and arrived on my block I noticed it suddenly became brighter outside so I looked up and to my surprise I saw what looked to be a bomb go off not too far from me, followed by what seemed like 5 more. I sprinted as fast as I could to my house and ran inside. I immediately thought of my parents and started calling for them."Yes sweetie, what's wrong?" My mom said confused on why I was so scared. I ran up the stairs and hugged her but thought of my dad
"Is dad here too?" I asked concerned.
"No, he's at work." I looked up to her with a worried face.
"What is it?" She asked.
I motioned for her to come down the stairs and pulled the door the rest of the way open, as I hadn't fully closed it before. She stepped out on to the porch and her eyes widened. She then looked down and a tear dropped from her face on to the concrete. She ran back inside, picked up the phone and dialled dad's number.
"Hello? James?" She paused for a second then set the phone down.
"Mom," I said shakily.
"He's not answering," she said crying. She quickly wiped her tears and brought me to the kitchen.
"Help me do a barrier spell," she said as she grabbed candles and herbs.
After doing the spell there was a blue barrier around the house keeping anything or anyone but family from getting in. In case dad came home. Tired from the spell, I went into the living room and dozed off on the couch. About an hour later I woke up to the sound of the door knob rattling. Scared I slowly walked over and peeked out the window.
"Mom! come quick it's dad!" I shouted as I looked out the window. Mom ran to look and quickly opened the door
My mouth dropped at the sight. I knew it was Dad but it surprised me that he made it here. He instantly hugged my mother then pulled us over to into the living room.
"The bombs will only get worse, and the spell will not hold for much longer. Lily I have a way out of this for you," He said with a wide smile on his face. "There is an outpost in California where you can go and be safe, I hear there will be other witches there that can help you."
"What do you mean? What about you guys?" I said worriedly.
"There was only one ticket available, but, it's okay honey. We just want you to be safe," He said a tear falling from his eye. "Okay sweetie go pack a bag, just essentials. Okay?"
"Okay dad." I said before kissing him and my mother on the forehead.
I ran up the stairs into my bedroom, the walls were painted grey with an accent of blue, my queen sized bed right in the middle of my room with fairy lights hanging off the headboard. As soon as I turned turned into my bathroom I began packing toiletries, a toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush and a few other things. As I turned back into my room I noticed my dog, Willow, laying on my window seat, staring out at the baby birds fluttering around the tree branches. I went over and immediately hugged her. I felt a few tears run down my face and drop onto her soft fur. I stayed like this for a while until I pulled away and kissed her. Then I began packing, I went over to my dresser and looked for comfy clothes. If this was about to be the apocalypse I didn't care about being cute anymore.
Once I finished packing I headed back downstairs to find my parents waiting at the door with two men dressed in all black.
"Lily, these men will take you to the outpost." She pulled me closer to her, sensing my nervousness. "Come. Put on one of these suits and give them your bags, you have a long journey ahead of you," she said pulling me in for a tight hug.
"We love you Lily bear," Dad said, taking my bags from my hands and handing them to the men.
After saying our final goodbyes, I leave crying.
