Heather's POV
Ardeth dropped me off at the edge of Hamunaptra. He told me to get everyone to leave and be-careful. Before returning to the Medjai on his horse. I walked back to the campsite to see it deserted. Everyone must already be underground. So I go over to the statue of Anubis and propel down. I then go to the sarcophagus chamber.
As I near it I hear the others yell. I draw my gun and run into the chamber. "What's going on?" I demand. Then notice the juicy mummy in the open sarcophagus. "Is he suppose to look like that?" I ask them as I put my gun away.
"No. I've never seen a mummy look like this. He's, he's still...." Evie trails off.
"Juicy" Jonathan offers.
"That's an understatement, it looks like he's still decomposing" I state.
"Which is not right, he must be over three thousand years old. He should not look like this" Evie states.
"Was there anything strange about his sarcophagus?" I ask her.
"The sacred spells had been chiselled off, he was cursed not just in life but in death also" she states. Could this be the evil Ardeth spoke of? The mummy is diffinetly giving me bad vibes.
"Hey look at this" Ric says and we see him examining the interior of the sarcophagus lid. There are fingernail scratches and dried blood all over the inside.
"Oh my god, he was buried alive" Evie says horrified.
"He left a message, what does it say Evie?" I ask pointing at the hieratics written in blood. She leans closer to read it.
"It says: 'Death is only the beginning'" she reads out loud. I draw my gun again.
"Where's my gun?" Rick asks as he looks for it.
"What are you going to do? Shoot him?" Jonathan asks us.
"If he decides to wake up, hell yes!" Ric and I say together.
"Why don't you all return to the surface, I'll join you all shortly" Evie suggests. We agree and leave. After she assures Ric and Jonathan that she'll be perfectly safe.
"So where did you disappear to last night?" Rick asks me.
"Oh I ran into the tomb and kind of got lost. So spent the night under ground. Found my way back to the surface this morning. Saw everyone had already returned to their dig sites. So I followed the same path we took yesterday to the chamber. Beni ran past me screaming about a curse" I explain.
"Sounds like Beni" he says. "I'm just glad you're safe sister" he tells me.
"I'm glad to be back with you all" I tell him. "By the way, are you all hangover?" I ask them.
"No" Jonathan says and I give him a pointed look. "Ok, maybe a little" he admits.
"I thought so, no drinking tonight" I tell them firmly. Jonathan pouts but nods his head reluctantly. We return to the surface and go to our camp site. Rick starts to build a fire.
(Time skip)
I was having a nap when I hear Ric say "that's called stealing, you know". I sit up rubbing my eyes to see Evie with the black book the American egyptologist had. Along with the key.
"According to you and my brother it's called borrowing" Evie tells him.
"Still not right" I say with a small yawn as I join them. Rick and I sitting either side of her.
"I thought the book of Amun Ra is suppose to be gold" Ric says confused.
"That's not the book of Amun Ra" I tell him.
"She's right, I believe this is the Book of the Dead" Evie adds.
"The Book of the Dead? Are you sure you want to be playing around with this thing?" Ric asks her.
"I agree with my brother, something doesn't feel right about reading this book" I add.
"It's just a book. No harm ever came from... reading a book" she assures us. She opens the book with the key and goes to a random page. A gust of wind howls through the camp.
"That happens a lot around here" Ric says. "What's it say?" he asks Evie.
"Ahm kum Ra. Ahm kum Dei" she reads in ancient Egyptian.
"It speaks of the night and day" I tell him. "That's enough for tonight Miss Carrahan, we should sleep" I tell her. But Evie ignores me and continues to read from the book in Ancient Egyptian. "Evie" I say confused.
"Evelyn" Rick says placing a hand on her shoulder.
"NO! You must not ride from the book!" the American Egyptologist yells. We all go quiet and buzzing fills the air along with a piercing whine. We all leap to our feet as the Americans run out of their tents. We look at the horizon to see a hoard of locusts flying towards us.
"Everyone into the temple!" Rick yells grabbing his gun. I grab a hold of Evie and we run for the tomb. With Jonathan and Rick hot on our heels. The Americans on theirs.
