Tw for blood and death!!!

It happened so fast Wilbur nearly missed it. One moment Tommy and his bow stood tall, his fingers trembling but his expression fierce. And the next, Tommy lay doubled over, an arrow sticking sharply out of his chest. Ignoring Dream's jubilant cheers, Wilbur rushed to Tommy's side, cradling the boy into his arms.

Tommy turned his head up to Wilbur, eyes glassy and unfocused,

"It hurts Wilbur" he whimpered

Wilbur brushed the hair gently out of Tommy's eyes,

"I know Toms, I know."

A bead of blood pooled into of the corner of Tommy's mouth, slowly dribbling down his chin like crimson tears.

Tommy coughed, a grating wet noise. He started to choke, blood splattering onto Wilbur's jacket.

"Shhhhh... Shhhh" Wilbur ran his fingers through Tommy's hair "It's gonna be okay"

Tommy looked up at Wilbur again.

"Will you sing for me?"

Wilbur tried not to notice the way that the brightness in Tommy's eyes was rapidly fading into a dull grey. This was just a normal night, a normal lullaby, like Wilbur would sing to Tommy before the war. Tommy was not dying.

But Wilbur could feel Tommy's heartbeat pressed close to him, and he could feel it slowing.

Wilbur opened his mouth, struggling to find a voice. Slowly he croaked out,

"You are my sunshine"

Tommy relaxed into Wilbur's arms

"My only sunshine."

His hand fell limp onto the ground

"You make me happy, when skies are gray"

His eyes fluttered shut, and they did not open.

The song died in Wilbur's throat and his breath hitched. Cradled in his arms lay Tommy, a smile on the boy's cold, unmoving face.

.......

Months later Wilbur lies in the lap of his father, bleeding out like his brother did before him.

Phil clings to his son like a lifeline but Wilbur's gaze lies elsewhere.

He stares into Tommy's shell shocked eyes. Tommy's sunshine hair is coated in soot and dust, and his blue eyes hold nothing but anger and desperation.

Wilbur's eyes begin to feel heavy, and his vision grows black spots in the corners. All around him he hears screams and sobs, and the smell of smoke fills his broken lungs. Phil's tears drip onto his face, mixing with the blood and ashes.

He doesn't know if he wants to laugh or cry.

It turns out he can't do either, because his vision is rapidly fading, and he knows his time in this godless world is coming to an end. At least he went out with a bang, he tells himself.

Wilbur takes one last look at Tommy, smiling weakly

"Goodbye, sunshine," he mouths.

Above Wilbur's bloodied body swirls a smoke filled sky. There is nothing but ash and soot and dust, and the sun is nowhere to be seen.
