Orbot opened a robotic eye as the door to his and Cubot's shared room. Cubot floated in and immediately turned in for the night. Orbot closed his eyes. While it wasn't all too common, occasionally Cubot would leave during the night and then return, usually only after Orbot had turned in. He made a mental note to ask him about it tomorrow. For now, though, he listened to the calming sound of Cubot's constant humming.
Eggman had left the two robots to clean up his failed project while he sat on the couch. Orbot had noticed Cubot's movements were much slower and he seemed a little bit disconnected from reality. Has he not charged enough last night? He didn't get home too late. "Cubot, are you alright?" Orbot asked, making the slightly bigger robot jump. "Ah-uh, yeah, fine." Cubot turned to continue cleaning quickly which only further confused Orbot. When asked, Cubot loves to overshare. Why was he suddenly being so....quiet? "By the way, Cubot, where did you go last night?" Cubot froze for a moment. "Uh. You knew about that?" "Well, yes. You're not exactly quiet." The temperature in the room rose slightly. "I was out on a date." Cubot finally said. Orbot made an approving 'hmph' sound. "Now, was that so hard to admit?" Orbot stopped his sentence and thought for a moment. "Is that what's got you upset? Did it go badly?" Cubot sighed.
"I just don't know what I'm doing wrong, Orbot! Every date goes horribly wrong, ending with them leaving upset at something." Orbot hummed. Cubot was definitely someone that takes a while to tolerate, so he didn't exactly blame his date(s) for leaving. They stood in silence before Orbot clapped his hands. "I got it!" Cubot jumped at the sudden sound. "H-huh??" "I have a solution to your problem, my friend." Orbot said. "It's quite simple, we go on a pretend date. I write down everything that you do that could potentially upset someone that doesn't know you as well, and at the end you know what you do wrong and can work to fix it!" Cubot stared intensely at Orbot for an uncomfortably long time, making him fidget. "U-unless thats a bad idea, and you think its stupid, I would totally get it, it sounds weird-" "No, no, that sounds smart! You're smart, Orbot!" The red robot felt himself heating up at the smile Cubot gave him.. He straightened up. "Of course. I am the brains, after all. Now, what did you do for this date?" Cubot tapped his chin. "I just called up a place, reserved it, and yeah?" Orbot tilted his head and frowned. "Why did you reserve it so late at night?" "I just took the closest reservation they had." The cube robot shrugged and Orbot almost cringed at his lack of preparation. He took the clipboard off of the side table and wrote that down.
"Where did you even reserve?" Orbot asked, twirling a pen in his fingers. "That one new restaurant? I think it was called the Bunny Buffet?" "Ah...new and popular, a bit pricey but not too expensive, just fancy enough that you need a reservation but not fancy enough that you need a suit, that's a good place you picked." Orbot wrote that down. "Now, we're gonna make another reservation. I want you to make it the exact same way you made it for your last date. Put it on speaker so I can hear." Cubot nodded and picked up the phone, dialing the number and putting it on speaker. Orbot lightly tapped his pen against the clipboard as it rang. "Hello! You've reached the Bunny Buffet line, would you like to make a reservation?" A slightly squeaky male voice rang out. "Uh, yeah." "Great! What day are you looking for? I can tell you the open spots." Cubot blanked. "What's the closest you got?" "Uh....we have a spot open tomorrow? But, it's at 10pm." "I'll take it!" Cubot announced and Orbot pressed the pen harder into the clipboard out of sheer shock. "Alright...so table for two, yes?" "Yeah? I think?" "Alright, and what name do I put down?" "Cubot!" He announced and Orbot broke the pen. "Alright then...your reservation is set, can I help you with anything-" Orbot squeaked and took the phone. "Cancel that reservation, please." "U-uh? Okay?"
Orbot took out his planner and ran through it. "Do you have any spots open for the 23rd?" It was next wednesday, an off day for Eggman and by comparison, Orbot and Cubot. "Oh, yes! A table for two, I assume?" "Yes, please." He felt much calmer doing it himself. "Alright, what time? We have 2:30-3:15, 4:00-4:45, 7:15-8:10, and 9:00-9:45." "The 7:15" "Of course. Is the name still Cubot, or...?" "Orbot." "Alright, your reservation is set! Have a nice day!" And with that Orbot hung up the phone and sighed. "You said please an awful lot there, Orbot." Cubot pointed out. "I was trying to be polite. With that set, all we have to do is wait." Orbot put down his clipboard. "Ugh! It's so disgustingly warm in here! Orbot, Cubot, go fix the air conditioner!" Eggman called and the two robots quickly left the room.
