a certain somebody had opened up my door, entering my house.
i smirked nonchalantly. "oh hey, you're back-"
"i'm sorry, jaemin, i just- i got confused and mixed, and it was just-" ara was stuttering, her hands flying everywhere.
right after ara had stomped out of my house, she had came right back. it took about five minutes. which was longer than i had expected; after all, ara tended to overreact slightly.
i thought about what she had been through, though. her dad, her boyfriend. of course she would be slightly sensitive, especially with males. even if that male was me, her best friend.
i smiled. "ara, i know. it's okay." i stared at the floor and shuffled my feet. "and i'm sorry for making you angry...i just want you to be safe." i smiled with embarrassment and looked up to show that i was genuine.
ara nodded. "fine."
i was confused. "fine?"
she muttered something under her breath about being old. "i said, fine. sign me up."
i froze. and then i started cheering. i walked forward and hugged her. "yes! yes! yes!"
she laughed, and her smile made my heart stop. something about her was so...precious.
she interrupted my thoughts. "you know, my mom invited me over to eat too. she said to invite you. and then, i told her i was mad at you but then she told me to suck it up because you were too special to lose. that's what i was doing during those five minutes."
i laughed. "she's really the same? still? that's amazing." i cracked a smile. "tell her that it's a big, fat YES!"
"you know what?" she asked. "let's give her a call right now, okay?" she pulled out her phone and pressed on her mom's contact information, then pressed the call button.
it rang for about two seconds, but then ara's mom answered.
"mom?"
"ara! sweetheart, what's up? did he say yes?"
i bent down and rested my head on ara's shoulder. "right here! and yes! of course, mom." i called her 'mom' as an inside joke, back when i hung out with ara so much that i had mistaken ara's mom as my own. we were neighbors back then, and when we moved out, we were neighbors as well. we still were.
"jaemin! sweetheart, how are you? i miss hearing your voice, even though it's about as deep as my dad's. and i bet you look very handsome, right ara?" ara groaned, and i burst out with laughter. i loved ara's mom, and i couldn't stop laughing at how she was treating me. like family.
i stopped the moment i saw ara's facial expression. i casually coughed to hide that i was laughing.
"mom. i have a boyfriend. named taeyong, remember?" her voice was harsh and cold. i winced. ouch.
"oh darling, i know. come over tomorrow, though, okay? only you and jaemin and miyeon-"
i interrupted. "cho...miyeon?" my miyeon? well, not mine anymore.
ara nodded. "yeah, miyeon. you know her?"
i blinked back tears. "yeah. i do." i cleared my throat, ignoring the memories of her.
"she's not going though."
i nodded. "er- great." i was starting to sweat, even though it was cold. "so when?"
"come over in two days! at six! dinner time!" ara's mom was exclaiming with joy. i could feel the exclamation-mark energy.
i smiled, and realized that she couldn't see me. "that's great! i'll be there with ara."
"awesome-sauce! see you there!" ara and i groaned. she used such old language, but inside, we loved it. after a few more be safe! and eat wells, we said our goodbyes and hung up.
"i'll pick you up, okay?" i peered at ara.
she cracked a smile. "we're neighbors. i'll walk over." she paused, and awkwardly asked, "uh. when's the first class?"
"ah!" i forgot to tell her. "tomorrow." she was obviously uncomfortable. "if you want," i offered, "i'll drive you there and stay the whole time."
an evil smile appeared on her face. "sign up with me."
"ah. ha. ha..." i muttered. "i have a job..." and i already-
"let's do the days you don't have work! and tomorrow you don't, right? it's perfect!"
i sighed with the energy of a ninety year-old grandpa. "alright, alright."
she let out a little yippee! and grabbed my hands. spinning around, we danced around the room. we laughed the whole time, and i felt my heart rise. i paused for a moment to play our favorite artist.
we continued dancing and spinning. she was so beautiful.
ara. you are going to break my heart.
