June had just started and despite this, the weather outside wasn't the best.
It was a rather cloudy day, although a few rays of sunlight warmed the faces of the two boys, still in the hospital bed.
Indeed, Satori was lying on the bed and Wakatoshi, who had just woken up, was over him, resting on his chest.
He slowly raised his head, to check if the red-haired boy was still sleeping.
He kept his eyes closed.
Every time Tendou's chest rose and fell, Ushijima could see the boy frown, making him understand that, even with the help of the oxygen machine, he was struggling to get the air into his lungs.
"Tendou, is everything okay?" the brown-haired boy said, putting a hand on the boy's cheek.
He had noticed that Satori was awake, he had moved his hand slightly.
Tendou suddenly widened his eyes, probably Wakatoshi had scared him.
Then he forced a small smile and nodded, although his face showed obvious signs of fatigue that the boy was feeling.
Ushijima smiled too and lay back on the boy's chest.
A couple of minutes passed and Wakatoshi was starting to fall asleep again, when he heard the almost inaudible voice of the red-haired boy.
"Wakatoshi-kun."
He managed to say in a weak voice.
Then Ushijima looked at him without lifting his head off his chest, then he smiled.
"Tell me, Tendou."
Satori tried to keep talking, but he couldn't.
So with his hand, which was shaking a little, he pointed to a small piece of furniture that was on the side of the room.
Then he looked at Wakatoshi, continuing to indicate.
"Do you want me to take something from there?" Wakatoshi asked, the red-haired boy nodded.
Ushijima slowly got out of bed and walked to the small piece of furniture.
Once in front of that, he pointed to the top drawer looking at Tendou, to ask if he should open that.
Satori nodded again.
When Wakatoshi opened it, he found a small sheet of paper, which was folded in four parts, and pulled it out.
Closed the drawer, he headed back to the red-haired boy, confused.
As soon as he came back to him, the boy stopped his hand before he could open the small piece of paper.
Satori then pointed with the same hand to the Wakatoshi's pocket, who was always standing next to his bed.
Initially Ushijima looked at him puzzled, but the red-haired boy persisted.
"Please." he tried to say.
Then Ushijima did as he was told and put the piece of paper in his pocket.
He watched the other boy, who had now smiled a little.
Then with his hand, Tendou gently pulled the edge of Wakatoshi's shirt, to ask him to return there to him.
Wakatoshi did as he was told again, although he was still confused.
He lay down on Tendou's chest again, without saying any word.
Ushijima just wanted to keep Tendou quiet, so he decided not to ask him questions.
They spent the whole day like this and Wakatoshi didn't even have lunch, since he was back asleep by that time.
Evening came, Wakatoshi was now awake and still in the same position, while he stroked Satori's hair.
The brown-haired boy kept his eyes open and felt a lump in his throat, without really understanding why.
Then, lying on the other boy's chest, he looked out of the window: it was already dark, and probably, it would start raining soon.
Tendou kept his eyes open too.
He felt pain with every breath, so much so that he couldn't keep his face relaxed, so it writhed in small grimaces of pain that the brown couldn't see being resting on his chest.
"Wakatoshi."
Ushijima didn't hear him, the oxygen machine was making too much noise and his voice was so feeble now that it was almost impossible to hear.
The red-haired boy realizing that Ushijima hadn't heard him, raised his hand with difficulty over the other boy's head, ruffling his hair to get his attention.
Wakatoshi slowly raised his head, and noticing that Satori had a face that was anything but relaxed, he brought his face to the same height as Tendou's.
This last one instead placed his hand, despite trembling, on Ushijima's face.
Satori's face now seemed a little more relaxed, and with his eyes he continued to observe Wakatoshi's face.
The red-haired boy kept his mouth ajar, and even though the mask he wore was transparent, it was almost impossible to see, since it was fogging more and more.
Ushijima gently placed his hand on Tendou's, still placed on his cheek.
"Satori? What's the matter?" he said noticing that the red-haired boy's breathing became more and more irregular, and that the boy continued to look at him.
Tendou didn't look away, on the contrary he smiled slightly and then uttered a word with difficulty.
"Thank you."
Ushijima could feel his heart racing faster and faster.
"What are you... Satori?"
The brown-haired boy felt Tendou's hand grow heavier under his, and the boy's eyes slowly closed.
"Satori?" Wakatoshi repeated, dropping the boy's hand, bringing his own to Tendou's face.
Ushijima was petrified for a moment.
The delicate sound with small pauses that the electrocardiogram emitted turned into a flat, continuous sound.
The monitor was now showing a flat line.
The doctors entered the room because of Wakatoshi's screams, who was desperately trying to wake the red-haired boy.
A couple of doctors were forced to take him out, as the boy seemed to have no intention of leaving the room.
His screams, which now echoed in the corridor, turned into a crying, which no matter how much he tried to silence, soon resulted in a rather violent weeping, interrupted by sobs.
Wakatoshi had seen it with his eyes: it had really happened, the red-haired boy was passed away.
Wakatoshi's smiles no longer existed.
Wakatoshi's house no longer existed.
Satori no longer existed.
