Joke's on You

There wasn't much sleep to be had between the interrogation party that had been waiting at the door and the restless sleep knowing Blaze was watching. Of course I'd lied. Why would I tell them that I'd been wrong? Pride 101 strictly said to never admit defeat, even in death. So, I lied partly for pride and partly because I needed to protect them. If Blaze was capable of doing something like this then who knows what he could do to someone else he found to be expendable.

What he wanted me for still remained unclear.

Somewhere in the night I'd drifted off but it had only been for a few hour. The sun was peaking through the curtains, ruining my last hope for rest. I didn't want to open my eyes. Didn't want to believe that any of it was true.

Blaze wasn't capable of this. I wasn't even sure what this was. Maybe it was temporary and I'd open my eyes and find it gone.

I didn't dare test it though, the little silver coil of energy laying uneasily in my belly.

At last I rolled over, my eyes fluttering open to find Axel standing in my doorway. His head tilted to the side, that cocky smirk tugging at his mouth and my problems were solved. He was here and he would make this better.

"Axel," I choked out, tears brimming my eyes.

Our bodies crashed into each other. He was colder than normal but I didn't care. He'd been out there running day and night to get back to me.

He's here. It'll be okay now.

"Axel."

"Shh."

He brushed a finger down my lips before replacing it with a kiss. The hunger behind it nearly knocked me off my feet. I didn't have time to process his sudden disregard for the game we'd been playing because without warning he flipped me onto my bed. There was a second to regain the air I'd lost before he was on me. His hands slipped under the thin fabric of my night shirt, my skin prickling at the invasion.

I didn't care. I couldn't feel Blaze in my head since the moment he'd started kissing me.

"I missed you," He breathed, breath cool on my neck, "God you are so sweet, baby."

My brow knit.

Since when did Axel call me baby

Child? Yes.

Annoying? Check.

Kyra? Most definitely.

I inhaled, the scent of apple and oak missing from his skin and the sparks. Where the hell were the damn sparks? Axel was hot, his essence always just under his skin. The hands on me were lukewarm at best.

Fury drifted over me, my foot striking out. The imposture stumbled back, his eyes hurt but Axel wouldn't be hurt he'd be pissed.

"Kyra," He whimpered my name.

"Blaze," I sneered back, "Shows how much you know your cousin."

I watched the corner of his mouth twist in amusement. The illusion flickered until it was no longer Axel before me but Blaze.

"Come now baby. We were just getting to the good stuff," he mused, "If you'd give it up for Axel then what's the problem with me?"

My cheeks flushed, "I would never be with someone like you."

Leaning against my dresser he stared me down, "It's not really fair, now is it? Why should he get to taste you when he's not even alpha? Don't I deserve a little taste?"

"You wouldn't dare," I shot back.

"You forget sweetheart, I can do whatever the hell I want to you now," He moved over me, the pain just starting to bud in the back of my neck, "You're mine and don't be so sure he'll still want you after he find out about this little session we had. I'll tell him all about how you threw yourself at me."
