So you think you have what it takes to be a kpop idol? Well first you gotta audition. But before you audition first of all:
Have you been training in singing and dancing?
Do you know basic korean?
Are you prepared to work long hours?
Can and will you take critisism?
Are you prepared to fail?
Take these questions into consideration. If your answer is no to at least two of the questions then I suggest you find a different thing to do. Remember, being an idol is NOT a hobby, it's a career.
There are different types of auditions:
1. Online Auditions- These auditions are online (duh!). These are mostly done by foreigners, but some people in Korea do it too. They will ask you questions such as your name, age , height, etc. They will ask you for photos of yourself (that are not photoshopped) and a video or audio of you singing, dancing etc.
2. Private Auditions- These auditions are just one person. You will be asked to prepare two songs one in english and one in korean. They may ask you to dance freestyle even if you did not choose dance as your category.
3. Public auditions- These are normally held on a certain day. The kpop companies will advertise it. So you would show up to the audition and register on the spot. They will ask you to bring a photograph of yourself so that you can attach it to the form. You will then have to wait. They will call you in, in groups of five to ten people. They will do a camera test and then ask you to sing on the spot for thirty seconds. This also applies to rap. They will ask you to dance for thirty seconds as well regardless if you chose it or not. If the judges think you're good enough then they will ask you to stay behind for a second assessment. If you do well in your second assessment then you're a part of that company.
4. Global auditions- These auditions are just like the public ones except it's held overseas.
5. Street performances- ok so technically not an audition, but sometimes people perform in the streets and get chosen to go to a company.
6. Scouts- Again not an audition but you could be minding your own business and someone from a company could spot you and ask you to join.
I'll post more soon
