My immortal

Estella had been in her room thinking, a lot.

~

Estella had left her home a week ago and was travelling west with a small company of men. One in particular had caught her attention. His shoulder length hair was as black as the night and his green eyes reminded her of freshly cut grass in the spring. His pale skin was as white as snow and his broad posture was superior to that of other man. Dragomir was him name.

Estella was attracted to him, as he was to her. What started with shy glances and short conversations, led to heated nights and passionate love. Estella had fallen head over heels for the man who was twelve years her senior, but she did not care, for she believed him to be her true love. It was a period that made Estella forget about the reason she had gone on her journey in the first place. It did not help that she had absolutely no idea who she was looking for either.

It was the day they arrived in England, that Estella would find the first hint. She held her daughter Anastasia as they walked along the river Thames. Estella smiled at the little girl lying in her arms and pressed a kiss upon her forehead. Anastasia was a beautiful baby and very well protected by the men of her party of travelers.

“What a beautiful child you have”, a slightly tanned lady with light brown curly hair smiled at Estella as she passed by. Her moss green dress complemented the color of her eyes and was beautifully decorated with dark embroidery on the chest.

“Thank you”, Estella answered and beamed at the woman. “What is your name?”, she asked curiously. She was delighted to finally be able to talk to a woman. It was hard travelling with a group of men, especially for a young woman.

“I am Rose”, the woman smiled at Estella.

“It is a pleasure meeting you Rose. My name is Estella”, she replied. The women started talking and a wonderful friendship developed between the two. Twice a week, Estella would visit Rose’s townhouse and dine with her and Trevor, her husband. They were very kind and served the best red wine Estella had ever tasted. It was a secret recipe according to Rose.

Estella was walking back from one of yet another lovely dinning evening at Rose’s house when she was slammed against a wall in a small alley. A cloaked figure breathed in her face as he studied her closely. Estella closed her eyes and started crying.

“Please, let me go”, she sobbed thinking about Anastasia. If anything would happen to her, who would take care of her daughter for her? Dragomir was a fine man, but not capable of raising a child on his own.

Her cries were not heard and Estella’s neck was snapped. She was dead; at only 18 years old she had died and already left a daughter and husband behind.

Estella woke up when a warm sensation hit her face. “Where am I?”, she groaned and held her pounding head.

“You’re safe now”, Rose smiled at her. “Here, drink this.” Rose handed Estella a cup of her marvelous red wine or so Estella thought. The taste on her tongue was beyond anything she had ever tasted, it was pure and sweet and almost heavenly. It was blood.

Estella gulped down the thick substance and asked for more and more. She drank almost five glasses before Rose told her to stop. Rose began to tell stories; stories about a certain Katerina Petrova, a woman that reminded her of Estella. It had been the reason why Rose had approached her in the streets in the first place. After hearing Estella’s stories on how she ran away from home and was searching for her mother, the connection was not hard to make: Estella was Katerina’s daughter. From that day on, Estella started a new life as vampire and started her eternal journey of finding Katerina Petrova.

She hadn’t always been a bad person, in fact she was the most compassionate and loving person around during her human years, but centuries of killing and feeding on human blood had changed her; turned her into a monster. She had changed into something she did no longer want to be. Elena had made Estella recognize her mistakes, made her see that vampires do not have a bad nature. You simply are what you choose to be. Elena chose to be good and Estella was willing to follow her footsteps.

Estella stepped onto Caroline’s doorstep and rang the bell. It didn’t take long before a cheery blonde opened the door, however her smile soon faltered when she saw Estella. Not knowing what to do, Estella waved awkwardly at Caroline before putting her hands in her jean pockets, while rocking on her feet. She did not blame Caroline for being unpleased to see her, she would have been too if the vampire that had tried to kill her showed up on her doorstep. She probably would’ve stepped outside and rip his head off, but Caroline stayed calm. Instead of doing any violent, she had trouble biting back a surprised smile.

“What are you doing here?”, Caroline asked, shaking her head lightly. Her big blue eyes scanned Estella’s face, trying to find anything suspicious.

“I’ve come to apologize”, Estella said, having to use little force to say the words which surprised her pleasantly. Caroline sighed and crossed her hands in front of her chest.

“And why would I forgive you?”, she said and sent Estella a glare. “You tried to kill me.”

“Listen”, Estella said, letting out a tired sigh. She did not want to argue with Caroline over something as stupid as their minor fight. Yes, she could’ve killed Caroline. No, it didn’t happen. “I do not say this very often, so I expect you to accept….I…am…sorry.”

Caroline blinked a few times dumbfounded before giving up. She dropped her hands to her side and let her shoulders hang. “Fine”, she whined while throwing her head back. She looked back at Estella and pursed her lips.  “Apology accepted.”

Estella’s face lit up, a radiant smile playing on her lips. “Thank you”, she said.

“But only because Elena likes you”, Caroline added with a warning look. Estella’s smile only grew wider as she heard those words. Elena liked her; Caroline had said it, nothing could ruin her day anymore. “So…do you want to come in?”, Caroline asked while raising one eyebrow. Estella nodded gratefully and entered the threshold. Was all of this a beautiful nightmare or was she really starting to make friends?
