Side Chapter 2

Inside the prison in Magadan, the Imperial Soldiers have been ordered to step out of their prison cells to follow the guards. The prisoners watched as hundreds of them were sent out of the prison and into trucks that they haven't been told about; For all they know, they're good as dead. Five kilometers outside of the city, the trucks stopped in a field. The Imperial soldiers were ordered to get out of the truck. They were confused on where they were sent. There was an open field with a couple of houses, a weird wall that had sharp wires, and towers with men scouting on them. As they looked around, a voice was heard "SOLDIERS ATTENTION!" he said in their language. They couldn't believe what they saw;their general Caldius was still alive, they cheered however it was cut short. Beside him, were two other men "Soldiers, we should all be glad that we are still alive and well. These men beside me used to be the enemies; however we have been forgiven by them and have been given a second chance," he explained. The men wondered why their general would side with the enemy. Caldius continued, "His Imperial majesty betrayed us just so his legitimacy is secured. He fears that we, as soldiers, are too good for him and the only way he could get rid of us is by sending us all to die. And so these men have given us a chance for revenge and to help us create a better empire that would last for all eternity." With that speech, his men rallied to his cause as the two former enemies walked forward. They introduced themselves. The first one was Sam, an American in his 50s and Pavel, a soldier from the former black league. Both men could speak in Latin fluently and it surprised the imperial soldiers. Both men explained what they were going to do. The Imperial soldiers were to be retrained into USR Army standards and learn their language. And the two men were their drill instructors. If any of them tried to escape, they will be shot. They counted the men. 1,223 of the 20,000 Imperial soldiers exited the gate. Their first training started immediately. They were ordered to wear their new uniforms and gear, and do a two kilometer jog in formation. Their new equipment was lighter and comfortable although they lack the protection from their previous gear. The soldiers finished their jog and were allowed to have lunch and rest. For the first time after being captured, the Imperial soldiers enjoyed their meals, stuffing their bellies as they rest. After an hour of resting, they were called to start their initiation in the new army. They were sent to another field called the shooting range where Sam was waiting. "Gentlemen!" he said to all of them "This thing you see me holding is called a rifle. This was the weapon we used to destroy your army when entered this world but now you have all been granted a chance to use this weapon in taking your revenge. However if anyone of you dare to turn your back against us or even point this weapon at us, expect to be killed by the other men beside me or near you." As he finished his speech, he loaded the rifle from the top with a 10 round stripper clip and fired emptying it in only a few seconds while hitting the target. The Imperial soldiers were astonished. How it could hit a target so far out and accurate. "Any volunteers?" he asked confidently, everyone raised their hands. Sam picked out eight of them and sent each of them to their firing stations where the gun Sam was holding waited. They picked the rifle up and followed Sam's instructions in loading. As they pulled back the charging handle and aimed, they could see their old armor in the distance. They were disturbed because this is no different from killing their comrades, but they knew if they quit now they can never see their families or friends again. So they fired. As expected from someone who has never fired a rifle before, most of the rounds missed but at least they enjoyed firing even if their shoulders hurt after a while. Everyone took turns learning how to load and shoot. In the end, the field where once Imperial armors stood were now scattered into small pieces, these men have proven their loyalty to their general and to Russia. From now on they, shall be known as the new Imperial Army. However, they are still far off from using these guns. The day ended as they entered their barracks. They enjoyed their meals to celebrate a new life. In the office, Sam was cleaning the room up and preparing to head to his dorm to get some sleep until Pavel entered the room.

Pavel: This is a bit different from training the other recruits.

Sam: What do you mean?

Pavel: You said to them you would train them like every other soldier in this army, yet skipped the education part.

Sam: Pavel, from where I come from, education is second. Fighting comes first for it is all within us, we only need to enhance that's all. The only reason why I decided to let new recruits learn the language first is because I know that they are going to run around town finding the nearest woman they see.

Pavel: So you're saying is that these men will not be going out.

Sam: They will, under supervision.

Pavel: Do we have a plan for these men?

Sam: Yes, first week it's physical training, second week is taking them into long marches, third week is weapon training and the fourth week is a war game from what they've learned. Of course every Monday, Wednesday and Friday they'll be educated in speaking our language.

Pavel: Ok then, thank you for that information and I'll see you tomorrow.

Pavel left the room and Sam finally finished off cleaning the office and headed out locking it. On his way he passed by Caldius who thanked him for giving his men a new place to stay, Sam only smiled and nodded. As long as they follow the rules, nothing bad can happen.
