Chapter 11: Zero to Hero

3rd Person POV

"From that day forward, our girl Kara could do no wrong," Calliope says while walking past Kara who was helping a kitten out of a tree for a little girl. Neither the hero nor the applauding crowd surrounding her could hear or see the muses. "She was so hot, steam looked cool."

"Ooooooh, yeah! Bless my soul! Kar was on a roll!"

Kara saves a family from a burning building

"Person of the week in every Greek opinion poll. What a pro. Kar could stop a show. Point her at a monster and you're talking SRO"

Lex was throwing monster after monster at the young hero who easily defeated them all. 

"She was a no one. A zero, zero. Now she's a honcho. She's a hero. Here was a kid with her act down pat"

Kara signs some autographs with Alex and Pegasus smiling fondly from afar. 

"From zero to hero in no time flat. Zero to hero just like that (snaps)When she smiled. The girls went wild with oohs and aahs. And they slapped her face on ev'ry vase (On ev'ry "vahse")

Kara buys Megan and Jo'nn a nice new house closer to the village and giving them enough money so they could retire on the spot. 

"From appearance fees and royalties. Our Kar had cash to burn. Now nouveau riche and famous. She could tell you, what's a Grecian urn? Say amen"

More monsters. More crushing defeats for Lex who was getting more and more desperate by the day. 

"There she goes again. Sweet and undefeated. And an awesome 10 for 10
Folks lined up, just to watch her flex. And this perfect package. Packed a pair of pretty pecs"

Kara flexes for a young fan who swoons and almost passes out but Kara had a specific pair of green eyes that hadn't left her mind since the Hydra battle.

"Karie, she comes. She sees, she conquers. Honey, the crowds were
going bonkers. She showed the moxie, brains, and spunk. From zero to hero a major hunk. Zero to Hero and who'da thunk. 

Kara watches a theatrical reenactment of all of her many battles.  

"Who put the glad in gladiator? Kara! Whose daring deeds are great theater? Kara! Isn't she bold? No one braver! Is he sweet? Our fav'rite flavor! Bless my soul! Kar was on a roll. Undefeated. Riding high. And the nicest gal! Not conceited! She was a nothin', a zero, zero, now she's a honcho. She's a hero. She hit the heights at breakneck speed. From zero to hero!"

The muses take their places in a vase above Kara who was depicted defeating a large boar in this particular piece finishing "Kar is a hero. Now he's a hero. Yes indeed!" and freezing back into place. 

Lex throws a blast of fire at a piece of clay panic threw blowing it up completely as he pants heavily.

"Pull!" he yells and the two demons throw another vase with Kara's face into the air. 

Lex easily destroys it with fire before continuing to pace back and forth. 

Lena sit's on a ledge looking on at the fuming god enjoying it more than she would admit as she says "Nice shootin', Rex" 

"I can't believe this girl," Lex says as he looks down at the town unveiling yet another statue of the hero. "I throw everything I've got at her and it doesn't even..." Lex freezes hearing squeaking behind him. He turns slowly to face the little red demon before looking at his feet and saying "What are those?" 

There on the red demon's feet were a brand new pair of Kara's shoes. 

James tries to act innocent as he wiggles his toes and says "Um. I don't know. I thought they looked kinda dashing." 

Lex surprisingly doesn't fry him and sighs frustrated before saying 'I've got 24 hours to get rid of this bozo" anger started rising in his voice. "or the entire scheme I've been setting up for 18 years goes up in smoke," James starts cowering as Lex shouts "AND YOU ARE WEARING HER MERCHANDISE!" but before Lex could kill the demon there is an annoying slurping sound behind them. 

They both turn and see Jack calmly standing 5 feet away drinking the Kara-themed soda they were now selling. 

Jack chuckles nervously and says "Thirsty?" offering a sip to the angry god who was two seconds away from losing his cool. 

Correction he lost his cool. 

Kara and Pegasus look over at the mountain where they see smoke rising from but shrug it off as they continue the festivities. 

Lena chuckles at the out-of-control god before saying "Looks like your game's over." as she starts to walk away. "Wonderwoman is hitting every curve you throw at her."

An idea hit's Lex and he smirks evilly as he says "Oh, yeah." he chuckles softly which Lena doesn't seem to notice she is too happy that Kara isn't dead. "I wonder if maybe I haven't been throwing the right curves at him, Lena, my sweet" 

That catches Lena's attention she spins feeling dread pile into her stomach as she moves away and says "Don't even go there." Shutting down the argument. 

"See he has to have a weakness because everyone has to have a weakness. For what Pandora it was the box. For the Trojans, they bet on the wrong horse. Okay? We simply need to find out Wonderwoman's." Lex says as he holds Lena in place. 

Lena wrestles her arm out of his as she says "I've done my part. Get your little imps..." 

Lex shakes his head and says "They couldn't handle her as a baby." Lex sighs and says "I need somebody who can handle her as a woman."

Lena shakes her head and says "Hey, I've sworn off dealing with women." 

"Well, that's good because that's what got you into this jam in the first place. You sold your soul to me to save your girlfriend's life." Lena's face falls at the mention of her ex. "And how does this creep thank you? By running off with some babe. She hurt real bad, didn't she, Lena, huh?"

Lex had her exactly where he wanted her as she says "Look, I learned my lesson, okay?" resting her hand over her eyes. 

"Which is exactly why I got a feelin' you're gonna leap at my new offer. You give me the key to bringing down wonder breaths and I give you the thing that you crave most in the entire cosmos," he leans in close and whispers "your freedom" into her ear.
