a wrinkle in time

prologue

"are you sure this is a good time to adopt?" james asked. sirius and remus both needed to sign one more thing, and the baby would be theirs. "i mean, we're in the middle of a war, for godrics sake."

"she'll be safe with us," remus answered. james was starting to get in his nerves. doesn't he realise how much they both want this? "i promise. soon, adora will be rightfully ours. she'll be protected and loved here."

as they floo'd home, adora lupin-black hugged sirius tighter around the neck. she hadn't said a single word yet. she had red satin bows, tying up her thin and shoulder length hair. sirius slowly set her down in the floor of their flat. "so," he started, "do you like it?"

she didn't talk. instead, she slowly walked around. examining every inch of the room as if she couldn't believe she lived here now. "come here, adora," remus called. she looked hesitant, but obliged when she saw the friendly look in his eyes. he dragged her into her new room. it had light yellow walls with a small white bed on one side.

the room had been decorated to fit her. their was a shelf with a bunch of different books, a dresser where it held her clothes, and a toy box fill to the brim with items. the practice broom was leant up against the wall - undeniably james' gift.

adora had been living with them for 3 months now. it was september 7th. they were in dumbledores office, awaiting a meetimg. adora was playing around by his desk. she had finally started warming up, hugging them and sometimes even calling sirius 'dada'.

it was hard at first. nobody told them that she had short-term memory loss. one time, they had gone straight to st mungos after adora woke up, not knowing who she was or where she was. they were devastated when they were told that it was incurable.

it was a few minutes later when a flash of light emerged from where she was standing, and both sirius and remus got up. when they got there, however,  adora was no where to be found.
