             Prologue: Purple Rain

A boy lies ahead of Jeongguk on the bed.

"Don't worry; he's stronger than he looks."

That's what his adoptive father had said.

"He's capable of fulfilling any need you seek from him....and if he's not ready yet he'd learn to, I know he will do anything...anything to protect her."

'Needs' & 'Learning'.

'Anything' & 'Everything'.

He looks barely a day older than eighteen; scruffy ashen hair, pale lips and all gangly limbs sprawling unceremoniously on top of the ridiculously expensive turquoise duvet.

It's a strange contrast if you're asking Jeongguk.

That twitchy little 'v' forming between his eyebrows, blue veins spiralling across his hands that trembles against the restrains contacting themselves to the bed posts are the only signs of agitation.

It is a subconscious movement, but he shows no other signs of distress; just lying comatose with shackles all over his feisty body.

But then his eyelids start to move on their own, somehow in sync with his body even in this unconscious state.

And the only thought that scraped past Jeongguk's mind was 'Petals'.

Maybe the fallen ones; maybe still untouched, and devastatingly in touch with the flower, remaining it as a whole.

Or maybe just another one of those petals that had never the chance of being just a simple bud, before the bloom.

Getting snatched right away before just the first drop of soft rain could touch it, only to be left out in the cold heavy showers.

Trampled on the soft, sullen earth of the abandoned orchard, lathered with the smell of moody petrichor.

Under that corrupted purple downpour.
