I remember a time not so long ago when I had you

And you had me

We would go to the library and read for hours, just you and me lost in the pages of a book.

Then, we would climb your favorite tree and sit on its branches

While we looked out at the world

I remember the look in your eye when you described the beauty of the life

You had such a way with words, it could put anyone in a trance

I had never met such a lyrical person until I met you

After a long day I would walk you home as we skipped along the river bank

Hand in hand

You made me the happiest person alive

When I look back on those times now all I feel is sorrow and regret

Regret because I should have held onto you tighter

Instead I let you go

Sorrow because I know I will never love someone the way I loved you

I hope you are doing better than I am, wherever you are.
