Next Morning....

I woke up with a bad headache from last night. When Devin came over last night, we stayed up and drank a Hennessy bottle until it was done. We had fun but I hate waking up with a hangover.

I walked in the bathroom and brushed my teeth. I washed my face and went downstairs for breakfast. Devin was still asleep so I made a bowl of cereal for myself. My mom walked in the kitchen, dressed for work.

"Goodmorning, baby." My mom said, giving me a quick kiss on the forehead. She grabbed her lunch for work from the fridge and put it in her lunch bag.

"Goodmorning, mom. I'm in charge of watching Kyler today?" I asked.

"Yes, I left $40 on your dresser for dinner tonight because I'm doing a double shift at the hospital." She said, giving me a warm smile.

"Can Devin stay over tonight again?"

"Sure but make sure you and Kyler clean up the house." She said, rushing out the door.

"Ok." I yelled after her. She walked out the door and went to the car. She came back in and grabbed the keys from the kitchen table and left again. Kyler came down with her hair pulled into a messy bun.

"Goodmorning, Vani." She said, tiredly. She opened the fridge door and grabbed the orange juice.

"Goodmorning, Ky. Mom said that we have to clean the house today." I said, washing my bowl and putting it in the dishwasher. I grabbed another bowl to make Devin some cereal.

"Ok. Devin's still here?"

"Yeah. He might stay over again."

"Mom actually said yes? I'm surprised, I heard y'all all night long." She said, drinking her orange juice. I rolled my eyes and continued to make Devin some cereal.

"So what you gonna do today?" She asked, grabbing a granola bar from the pantry.

"I'm just gonna stay home and chill. What are you gonna do today?" I asked.

"I want to go hang out with Ashley but I forgot to ask mom." She said.

"I'll call mom and see what I can do. But it better only be Ashley and not a boy cause you know mom doesn't allow you to date." I said, sternly. She nodded and hugged me.

"Thank you, Vani. I'm gonna go clean up right now." She said and ran upstairs. I grabbed the bowl and a banana pudding from the fridge and went upstairs to Devin.

"Hey, babe. Where did you go?" He asked, groggily. I sat down next to him and handed him the bowl.

"I went to go eat some breakfast and I made you some cereal."

"Thank you." He said, eating his cereal. I smiled and turned on my tv. I heard a knock at the front door and I got up and went to go open it. I opened the front door and I couldn't believe my eyes.

"What are you doing here?" I said.

"Avani, just hear me out. Please?" Vanessa pleaded. She looked at me with a sad face. I rolled my eyes and went to shut the door in her face but she stopped it with her foot.

"Move your foot before I break it."

"I'm not leaving until you let me explain." She said, crossing her arms. It's funny how she thinks I'm going to let her give some bullshit ass excuse.

"It's really funny how you think I'm going to let you explain why you gave me up." I said, laughing in her face.

"I regret making that decision. I missed out on my babygirl's life because I wanted to be selfish and think about myself. I'm so sorry. I know I put you through so much." She said, with tears rolling down her face. I rolled my eyes.

"A regret is like cheating on your boyfriend or husband. You don't regret giving me up." I said. She disgusts me. It's sad to say my own mother disgusts me but I don't care.

"I do regret giving you up. I regret everything I did to you. I regret all the pain I've caused you. I should've been there for you."

"Well, you wasn't because you chose Tommy and didn't even think about me. How did you even get my address?" I asked.

"Miss Tiara gave it to me. Don't get her in trouble, it's my fault."

"That was so unprofessional of her to do that. Look, I don't want you here. I don't ever want to talk to you or see you." I said, almost shutting the door but I stopped midway.

"But I do have 2 questions." I said.

"What is it?" She asked with hope in her eyes.

"Are you still with Tommy?"

"It's complicated."

"Wow, ok, but what are those bruises on your body? Don't think I give two fucks about you, I don't. I'm just curious." I said, sternly.

"Um, he beat me." She said, nervously rubbing her arms. I shook my head and looked at her. It's what she deserves to be honest but it's sad to say that.

"Oh. Well, get off my property before I call the police on you." I shut the door in her face and saw Kyler and Devin behind me. They looked at me with sadness all over their faces and it caused me to break down. I started balling my eyes out and they both walked up to me and held me.

"It's gonna be okay, babygirl. I'm here for you." Devin said, stroking my hair. I didn't want him seeing me like this. I didn't want anyone seeing me like this. It's like she insists on hurting me. Why she wants to come back now? She wants me to relive everything I tried so hard to overcome and it's slowly starting to work. I'm slowly losing myself all over again. I'm going right back to my past and I don't want to relive that.

"It's going to be okay, Avani. Miss Tiara should've never gave that woman our address and I'm going to tell mom and dad. That was so unprofessional of her to do." Kyler said, rubbing my back and wiping away my tears. I nodded and stopped crying. I don't want to be like this.
