Title: The Trial of Fluffy v. Checkers

The cute little Egyptian Maus cat, Kit, sat at the door. He meowed and meowed for his owner to let him out. Finally, after about 20 meows, his owner gave in and let him out. Kit leaped off his porch and rolled around in the grass. He trotted over to the road and went out for his daily stroll. Across the street was Checkers, the leader of the Siamese Cats.

“Checkers!” Kit called over, speeding his pace a little to catch up to Checkers.

Checkers swiftly turned around and began to charge at Kit. He clawed his side. Kit yelped out, but no one was around to hear. Checkers used his head to push Kit into a ditch then he soon jumped into the ditch himself. Kit was shocked at the sudden attack when it first happened, but he soon understood. He picked himself up and began to bite and scratch Checkers, finally defeating him. He grabbed Checkers with his teeth and pulled him out of the ditch. He looked up to see all the cats.

“He attacked me,” Checkers cried out, “He pulled me into the ditch and attacked me!”

Kit desperately looked around.

“I did not attack you, Checkers,” he said, gently resting his paw on Checkers’ belly.

“Yes you did,” he cried out, “He was so violent!”

“I said hi to you and you tried to kill me!”

Checkers scoffed and weakly tried to stand up. One of the other Siamese cats, Inky, quickly went to Checkers to help him stand.

“Why don’t we hold a trial?” Asked Fluffy, an Egyptian Maus.

"Do not tell me what to do." Checkers says with a scoff. If he could he would be holding his head up high as if he was better than everyone.

“I wasn’t telling you what to do,” Fluffy said with confusion, “It was a suggestion?”

“Someone please get this thing out of my face.”

Fluffy scoffed at Checkers and walked away. The Siamese Cats took Kit and shoved him into the Dog House, their special little prison. Kit only had a few visitors. There weren’t many Egyptian Maus in the neighborhood. Most of them were brutally murdered by the Siamese.

A few days passed and Kit was ready for his trial. All the cats in the community gathered around. Fluffy, being the most knowledgable cat in the community, held the role of judge. He stood on a little podium so he could rise above the others.

“Greetings kittens,” he yelled out pridefully, “We have been gathered here today to discuss the tragic event that unfolded 3 days ago.”

Many of the cats were nervous. Some were even shaking. If Kit won this trial it meant the less likable breeds could have a chance at feeling safer. Almost everyone in the community knew that the Egyptian Maus were disliked. There were many hate crimes against them and there was even a group created dedicated to eradicating the Egyptian Maus. Last year things were bloody and gruesome. Luckily, it all settled down after the long war. The Egyptian Maus protested for their safety. It is to be believed that Checkers was a member of the hate group against Maus, but it was never confirmed.

“Kit please come to the stand,” Judge Fluffy announced, still keeping his head held high, “Give your case.”

Kit trotted on over beside Fluffy and gave his side of things.

“I was attacked. I thought Checkers was my friend. I was wrong, sadly. I went to say hi to him and he pulled me to a ditch and began attacking. I was in so much shock and disbelief. It took me almost a minute to realize what was going on,” Kit stopped for a minute, hesitant to continue.

“Please go on, Kit.”

“Well, I believe he was trying to kill me. Do you ever notice how Checkers hates the Maus? I don’t think he is over the war yet. I think-”

“Stop there!” Checkers shouted out, hate burning like a wildfire in his eyes, “These are pure lies. He is deceiving you. I ain’t never hurt no one. I am a nice cat. Out of everyone here, you think I am prejudice against the Maus?”

“Yes. Yes, I do.”

Checkers glared deeply into Kit’s eyes. He glared right back.

“Silence,” Fluffy said, “Let’s take a break. Next, we will call a close friend of Checkers’ to the stand. Inky.”

Kit’s head hung low as he trotted back home for his dinner.

“Kit, wait up,” yelled Inky from behind as she came running up behind him.

Kit waited for her and they walked back to his home.

“You can stay if you want,” Kit offers, “I will share my food with you if you’re hungry.”

Inky shook her head. She walked into his home, his owners instantly greeting her. The owners never seemed to care about breeds. They loved all and accepted all. Kit walked into his owner’s bedroom. There was a cat tower in the corner of the room. Kit climbed up to it and lay down. After examining the room, Inky joined him. Inky wasn’t like most of the Siamese cats. She was more like the owners. Breed meant nothing to her. She cuddled up by him and they took a nap together. They had been working so hard.

The two woke up and attended the court trial. Inky got upfront.

“I heard rumors of Checkers being in a hate group against the Maus. I never believed it until I heard him plotting to kill Fluffy. I guess he couldn’t wait to kill though and decided to off Kit.”

“Y’know what,” Checkers says, getting up to stand next to Inky.

He looked rough. His fur was dirty and ungroomed. Out of all the cats, Checkers was the cleanest.

“You reek of catnip,” Fluffy said with a questioning tone.

“Screw you all!” He shouted out with slurred words, “Especially you, Inky. I never thought my own sister would betray me like this.”

Checkers began to hiss at Inky as he got into pounce position. The other cats tensed up and came running, but it was too late. Checkers had already attacked her. Attacked her almost dead. Some said it was the catnip, others say it was his anger issues. Checkers always had bad anger issues. He had never almost killed someone. Let alone that someone be his sister. The court decided to banish him to stay put inside at all times. After his owners discovered the attack they decided it’d be best if Checkers stayed with a friend for a bit.

Inky was left at the vet for days. Kit always tried to follow her owners and visit her, but he just couldn’t keep up with the cars. Over 2 weeks had passed when they finally saw her owners carrying a kitty crate inside. All the neighborhood cats waited patiently at the door for her. For once all the cats were reunited. Not a single minority was being harassed for their breed. For once, everyone seemed to get along.

Inky’s healing process took a few weeks, but she was better than ever once she healed fully. Kit created a group dedicated to protecting minorities and taking down the remaining hate groups. Fluffy sadly had to step down from his position as the judge due to obesity.
