Let The Games Begin

I covered my eyes to shield the light. It faded and I got a glimpse of what I was going to die in.

Beautiful mountains rose out of the ground in every direction I could see. They were covered in forests and had frost glittering on the peaks. The Cornucopia was set in a field at the bottom of the mountain.

Since there are so many tributes, the Cornucopia had even more supplies. Backpacks flooded  25 feet from the horn. The tips of spears glistened and Sleeping bags seemed to be calling me. Then I remembered I wasn't running towards the Cornucopia.

"As you all know, tributes will be running in groups of four." Claudius Templesmith reminded us.

Darn. I forgot about that. Lets hope citizens of Panem like Ava, Luis, and Percy.

"The group of four that will run in 1 minute, is Ava, Nylon, Pacific, and Dina."

BOOM! It wasn't the signaling cannon. The plate next to me exploded. I remembered that Ryder, from District 2 was there.

The countdown started. I saw Ava position herself to run, as did Nylon.

5,4,3,2,1....... "Let the 100th Annual Hunger Games Begin!"

Ava leaped off her plate. She was in the lead.

Then the countdown started for the rest of us right after they leapt off their platforms.

10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1! The cannon shot.I turned on my heel and raced the opposite direction of the Bloodbath.

I sprinted about half a mile up the mountain before resting. About a minute later Martin came followed by Milly.

"We're directly behind the Cornucopia, right?" Martin asked. I nodded.

"I hope they make it out alive." Milly said, concerned. If they didn't then we wouldn't have any supplies.

I layed down in the dirt. 10 minutes later the cannons were heard.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM !BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

"I counted nineteen." Martin said.

"Same," I answered. "That's a lot of deaths for the Bloodbath."

"Well, there are - er, were 72 tributes." Milly explained.

"Yeah. We should make camp." I told them.

I looked around and saw a cut off tree. I looked into it and noticed it was hollow.

"This is how. Martin can you dig a tunnel this soil is pretty sturdy?" I asked.

He nodded and got right to work. Even when he was finished with the tunnel, our other teammates weren't back.

"Maybe they can't find us?" Milly wondered.

"I'll search." I volunteered, I hopped off the rock I was sitting on. I walked for a couple minutes until I heard a voice.

"Brielle! Elle! Martin!"

"Ava!?" I called.

"Brielle!" She shouted. She burst out of the woods to hug me.

"Ava, I thought you were dead."

"No," She sniffed. "But Percy is."

My eyes widened. 

"What happened?"

"Well, he was running to a supply bag and, and-" She stopped and started to cry. "Nylon came up behind him-"

"Oh my gosh." I said. "What about Luis?"

"He's alive." She assured me. I then noticed her hands were empty.

"Did you get anything from the Cornucopia?" I asked. Ava nodded and ran back into the woods. She came out with a load of supplies.

"Whoa." I told her. "We got to bring this back to camp."

I led her through the trees towards our camp. When we got there, Milly looked surprised to see Ava.

"What'd we get?" Milly asked.

Ava dropped the supplies and we looked through them. We had gotten 5 backpacks, 4 sleeping bags, a couple food packages, a stack of throwing knifes, a dagger, a club, a scythe, and a sword.

"We did really good." Said Elle.

"But no bow." I said, disappointed. Hopefully Luis got a bow.

I zipped open the backpacks to see what was inside. Each one pretty much had the same stuff like a first aid kit a water jug, and a rope.

"This is camp?" Wondered Ava.

"Yeah, wait until you see it."

 Martin climbed out of his hole. His face was caked with dirt and his hands had a thick layer of orangeish brownish mud.

"You're alive!" He exclaimed.

 "Good to see you too." Answered Ava.

"Where are the others?"

Ava stared at the ground.

"Um, Percy died, and Luis should be here soon." I said, coming to her rescue. Martin nodded.

"Why are you in a hole?" Asked Ava, very confused.

"Brielle asked me to do it for some reason.

I explained to them my idea of digging a very large hole for all of us to fit in comfortably then put the hollow tree on top so it looks like we're an everyday hollow tree.

"Nice." Martin told me. 

Maybe about an hour later the sun started to set, yet there was no sign of Luis.

"It's done!" Cried Martin as he flung himself out of the hole. Milly, Ava, and I peered in. The entry was thin enough to fit the tree, but the main part was huge! It had room to hold all of us laying down in our sleeping bags, and our supplies, with room to spare.

"Cool." Said Elle.

"While we have the time, why don't we make it a bit comfier." I offered. My teammates looked confused.

"Ava," I ordered, "Cut that tree into boards please."

She shrugged and went off to work.

"I'll look for Luis." Volunteered Martin. He ran away.

"Okay, the boards are done." Ava told me.

"Lay them on the bottom of the camp to make a floor."

She nodded and slid the boards down the hole.

"What about light?" Milly asked.

"We wont need it," I replied. "it'll be dark when we sleep and light when we're awake."

I heard thundering footsteps and Martin ran to us.

"Luis," He gasped for air, "He's in the forest, he needs help."
