"No way. We are not giving up one of our own."
"My priority is protecting this planet-"
"By sacrificing one of the people who lives on it?"
"By making a decision to save the whole damn thing."
The argument between Bucky, Sam, and Fury had lasted roughly ten minutes by now. I sat with my head down, trying to drown their voices out with Caesar's words.
"I'll give you a day to think things over. I'm sure this must be so sudden, but Violet belongs with me...and her kind."
I'm
He didn't even say what my kind even was.A loud bang grabbed my attention and I looked up to see Bucky shaking his non-metal hand as he grimaced.
"If there was another way, I would take it trust me. Besides, she already volunteered to go," Fury said, crossing his arms. Bucky looked stunned and gazed at me.
"You did?"
My mouth went dry. Shit. What could I say? It sounded crazy in my head and to some extent felt wrong to want to go with the stranger, but there were questions that I needed answers to and he knew me.
"If...if I can help protect Earth I will, in any way I can," I started. Sam looked at me worriedly as Bucky furrowed his brows together.
"Violet, you don't know this guy. For all we know this could be a trap. What if he isn't a good guy? There's too many variables to be going in head first," Sam retorted.
"He didn't seem like he was lying. I think he does know who I am. If he had bad intentions, he would've just... attacked us and taken me."
Sam shook his head while Bucky stared at me. Fury sighed deeply and turned away as I stood up.
"I'm going. I need to find out what happened to me, and if there are others like me, maybe even my family," I stated firmly. Sam looked at me with saddened eyes, while Fury nodded at me with approval.
"If this is what you truly want... but never forget you have a family here, and a home too," Fury concluded. Suddenly, Bucky began storming out of the door and without a word I ran after him, pushing the door wide open and rushing into the hall.
"Hey!"
My voice bounced off the walls as Bucky stopped in his tracks and didn't turn to face me. My stomach felt empty, but full of static as I neared him, moving to look him in his face.
"What is going on? Why are you so upset," I questioned. Bucky let his gaze sink to the ground as he seemingly tried to avoid my question. "Bucky?"
Finally he looked up at me and his face was written with despair and something almost like grief. It broke my heart right there and I immediately wanted to take back my decision.
"Please...don't go."
I closed my eyes at the soft, begging tone of his voice and tried to navigate my emotions to address what was happening. What was happening? Was this...?
"I need to do this. I...I need to know, Bucky."
"You will be on a different planet, with people who are strangers. I don't know if they are safe, if they will protect you."
"Like you will?"
Bucky finally looked up at me, his cheeks slightly red as he clearly tried to think of an excuse. I bit my lip and tried to compose myself. We had to talk about the little dance we had been doing lately.
"Look, I'm just going to be blunt here: I notice the way you talk to me. Around me, you are so soft and caring, but to everyone else you are almost mechanical."
