------------------------------

A blonde-haired boy could be found pacing circles around his basement when the clock struck midnight. His face was a shade of bright pink, his breathing, heavy, and he was drenched in a nervous sweat. His white smiley face mask lay abandoned in the corner of the room, and his puffy, red eyes revealed the dirty secret that he had in fact been crying. In the middle of the concrete room, a small man sat unconscious, tied to a chair. His head hung limply over his chest and his damp brown hair dangled gracefully over his eyes.

Even beaten and bloody something about George entranced Dream, there was something so elegant about his defined facial features and his petite body.

Dream caught himself staring and shook himself back into focus, he knew there was no time for this kind of hesitation, but the harder he willed his hands to commit the deed, the more they refused.

This was something he'd done a hundred times at least, he'd learned to kill without even blinking, without feeling a thing. It was as natural and numbing to him as brushing your teeth or having a bath. In fact, just last week he'd beaten the life out of an annoying blonde child before he'd escaped from jail. He was known for his ruthlessness... he'd been branded as the villain since before he could remember.

But this, this was different. Everybody knew there were only two things in this world that mattered to Dream, his power and his George. But being a powerful man in love was a dangerous game to play, Dream knew he couldn't have both, he had far too much to lose.

So here he was, where he'd been for hours, deciding which one he was willing to give up.

He knew Quackity was coming for him, he was out of options, it was his only move left. Quackity knew he couldn't break Dream, he couldn't best him in a fight and there was no possible way to get Dream to give up the revival book except through George.

That's why Dream had to kill him, he had to kill George himself, so that no one else could.

George was Dream's only weakness, the only gap in his amour.

Dream sat down on the concrete and buried his head between his legs, he dug his hands into his hair and rocked back and forth repeating the words, "It has to be done" over and over again.

"Yes it does... you're doing the right thing Dream," the voices murmured back.

"Shut up." Dream thought, shoving his fingers into his ears. But that only made the voices louder as they ricocheted off the insides of his head with no way to escape.

"You're saving him Dream, imagine the tortures those barbarians would put him through. You're the hero here, you're the good guy!" They reassured him.

"No... I can't," he breathed in a shaky whisper,

"You're the hero Dream... now kill him," they hissed.

"SHUT UP," Dream yelled.

He sat up and threw himself back against the wall, gripping his hair manically.
