Watching two people fall in love can either be the most wonderful thing you'll ever see or your worst nightmare. It always depends on who was falling.
There have always been two blokes who helplessly admired Lily Evans: Severus Snape and James Potter.
And even though they might have fallen for the same girl, they both followed very different paths to woo the muggleborn girl.
While Severus prefered to be only a friend to her at first, he'd often observe Lily until he knew her better than she did herself. One could easily describe it as a form of obsession Severus had developed over the time, which Lily never really noticed.
For her, their relationship was purely platonic. He simply was her best friend.
James, however, wasn't a fan of watching. Instead he actively tried to win his beloved Lily over since their first year together at Hogwarts.
But other than Severus, she never considered James nor his friends as anything more than some annoying acquaintances. How could she ever fall for someone who treated her best friend so poorly?
And of course James had thought about letting Severus peacefully live his life at some point, but why should he? After all it was Severus who decided to disrespect Remus Lupin, one of James' best friends, only because he was a halfblood.
If there was something James Potter would never allow, it would be his friends being mistreated. Especially not because of something as stupid as their blood status.
Yes, this story could've been about Severus watching how Lily slowly fell in love James, but instead it's about the fourth person included:
Reyna Amirah Bell.
