18 year old Keefe Sencen leaned against the counter, smiling as he chatted with the customer, laughing slightly as he gave her the change and receipt, before waving her out and proceeding with the next customer.
Later, Keefe finished up, turning towards his dark haired co-worker, Fitz Vacker. "Hey, can I close up today," Keefe asked, running a hand through his hair nervously at his best friend. Or as to say... his crush.
Fitz nodded. " Yeah, sure. Want to come over today or.. ?"
Keefe shook his head, making up some excuse about needing to get home so his mom didn't freak out. All lies of course. He fumbled over to the back room, double checking that everything was closed and secure, before grabbing the key. He went over to the front, surprised to see Fitz still there. He made sure his hair was perfectly tousled before coming into his view. As he went closer, he saw that a pretty, petite, blonde-haired girl was talking to Fitz. Self consciously brushing some hair behind her ear. Her eyes were dark chocolate brown, sharply contrasting her hair.
Fitz laughed. "Soph, I'm sure he didn't mind. Don't worry about it." Fitz turned to see Keefe, and his eyes widened. As their eyes locked, Keefe noticed the glimmers of gold flickering in his eyes. Fitz quickly turned away to "Soph."
"Soph, this is Keefe. Keefe, this is Sophie," Fitz explained.
"Vacker, didn't realize you had a girlfriend," Keefe teased. But while saying those words, he inwardly flinched, and held out his hand for Sophie to shake. He did NOT like that girl.
Sophie's face instantly went red, and Fitz let out a laugh. "Girlfriend?! No, Sophie's like a sister to me," Fitz explained as Sophie shook Keefe's hand.
He realized that Sophie flinched while saying the words.
Good. That's what you get.
Keefe let out a sigh as Sophie and Fitz looked at each other in confusion. Sophie left the store eventually, after talking for a while. As Keefe and FItz were about to leave the shop to part ways, Fitz held onto Keefe's hand, twining their fingers as Keefe's face went red in confusion.
When they reached Keefe's car. Keefe tensed and let go of Fitz's hand. Waving a quick goodbye and hopping in the car. Fitz said goodbye as Keefe was lost in thought, still driving. Thinking about the way Fitz's soft hands felt in his. And the way he looked down at his feet after Keefe let go.
There was that tiny glimmer of hope. That maybe, just maybe, Fitz Vacker might like him back
