Chapter 13
23. 13 to go then the Elite. Would I stay? Or will I be gone? I thought of a life as a princess. Having a loving husband, enough money, food, heat. All of the pleasures I wouldn't have dreamed of as a five. But could I rule? If I was the the chosen one, would I make the country better? Could I stop rebels, help the poor, and be a great Queen? Or would I make everything that's bad worse? The fact that I am even thinking about it gives me shivers. Despite the fact that these tarts taste like heaven, I want to leave breakfast. I feel like the world is crashing around me. Isabella won't even look at me, I am on crutches, as for the rebels, I don't even know what to say. The only thing that was keeping me here was my family and Ahren. And maybe the food, but mostly may family and Ahren. Things could get better, with Danielle gone Alyssa's on her own when it comes to insults. Lyla and Alexis are good friends, but couldn't replace Isabella. The happy, bubbly one that I know, not the shy, gloomy one. I had to talk to her. She looks miserable. I can't keep her here if she doesn't want to stay, I'm not that selfish, right?
Later that day I went to the women's room to find Isabella. I spotted her in the corner reading a book called "Chambered Love," does that mean something? As I walked up to her she noticed me and closed the book.
"Hey," I said starting small. She replied with a "hey" just like mine. That's when I broke and basically poured my heart out.
"Isabella please I'm sorry I was so distant, I didn't mean to be harsh with you or anything I was just having a hard time and I don't even know." She looked awestruck. Instead of saying anything she hugged me. I hugged her back.
"I'm sorry," we said in unison. Then we laughed.
"We are so stupid sometimes," she said giggling.
"Yah," I replied also laughing. I wanted to ask her if she's staying, but I don't want to ruin the moment. I decide to grab paper a write letters.
Dear Everyone,
The palace is stressful, but I think it's worth it. The other day a two, Danielle stuck glass in my shoe and I now have stitches. She was always insulting me at meals and in the women's room, but she now gone so I'm happy about that. I have made a new friend Lyla, and I am still good with Alexis and Isabella. I have been on a few dates with the prince and he is quite a nice guy. Polite, handsome, funny. How is everything back home? I hope the money is helping, I wish I could send food too. I hope everything is well and I love and miss you all.
Love,
KathxoxoI seed the letter and put it on a counter with a few other letters. I went back to my room and Rachel and Charlotte greeted me there.
"Hello ladies," I greeted them.
"Hello Kathleen," Charlotte said, looking worried.
"Sophia...has...been...caught", Rachel stuttered. What?
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"She was caught kissing a guard in a closet when she was supposed to be on duty." Oh no!
"What's honing to happen?" I ask now worried.
"I think she's losing her job and being put in the palace 'dungeon' as we call it."
"Well we better get you ready."
My maids do there routine makeup, hair, then dress. Tonight I'm in a pink shimmery floor length gown. I slip on tiny heels, grab my crutches and go to dinner.
During the meal Ahren looks at me, a lot. Every time I catch him staring he tries to cover up, but I always smile or playfully roll my eyes. After dessert as I walk out into the hallway he stops me.
"Hello there Lady Kathleen," he jokes.
"Hello, your royal highness," I kid back.
"Would you like to accompany me on a date tomorrow?"
"Umm maybe...yah sure," I saying giggling.
"Good," he say faking seriousness. I chuckle once more before we exchange "goodnights" and he kisses my hand.
Back at my room I open the door to find a girl I've never met. I assume she's the replacement for Sophia, who I truly miss.
"Hello Lady Kathleen, I'm Delilah, your new maid," she introduces herself, curtsying.
"Hello," I reply. "You can just call me Kathleen, if that's okay," I tell her.
"Oh course."
She helps me get ready for bed, along with Charlotte and Rachel, who don't seem the same. After I'm all done I crawl into bed and left my thoughts slowly drift away...
When I wake up I'm excited. I hop out of bed and paint my already chipped nails. I do a French manicure with little stickers that help a lot. As soon as they are fully dry I crack open the diary. I found out Gregory was a horrid man. Selling his daughter to a prince she didn't know just so he could have a country, power, and money? I find that sickening. Also some of the things he said?! Totally absurd. Yet again I'm practically yelling at a book. When I hear footsteps in the hall I rush to close the book and hide if. I finish just in time for my maids to walk in.
"Good morning Kathleen, I see your back to your regular schedule," Charlotte chuckled.
"I have a date today," I said to them excited. They smiled and got me ready. They did my makeup, then curled my hair and put it in a half up-half down with a white ribbon shaped into a bow. They dressed me in a loose mint dress and gave me matching flats. They added finishing touches, and I was ready.
I twiddled with my necklace until Ahren arrived at my door.
"Hey Kathleen, I'm sorry I'm late."
"It's fine don't worry."
Ahren smiled and took my hand. We walked through the palace and out the doors into a garden area. We passed flowers and shrubs, but we kept going. We stopped at a large grassy area where a picnic basket was set up. My eyes widened and my smile got bigger. He gestured for me sit down and I did so.
"This is so...amazing," I gushed.
He laughed at my 'girly' ways. He passed me a tart and just as I bit into it grass went flying at me. I whipped my head around and saw the not so innocent face. I tore the green shards from the ground and threw it right back."Oh it's on," he challenged.
We started throwing grass at each other, ignoring the grass stains on his dress pants. Within the next ten minutes we were on the ground laughing uncontrollably. While we were laughing he took a tomato from the picnic basket and threw it at my dress.
"Ah!" I shrieked. "My maids will kill me!" He looked worried and hesitant, perfect timing. I picked up a different tomato and threw it as his perfectly pressed white shirt. He looked shocked, but then a devilish smirk grew on his face. He took another tomato, put it between his fingers, and pinched it so the juice platters all over my face. The assault of tomatoes continued until I tripped over the picnic basket and fell straight into Ahren's arms. He looked into my eyes and kissed me. I have just been kissed by the prince. Twice. After he pulls away he squirts another tomato in my face.
"Ever the romantic," I tease.
We finish our date by eating the good that wasn't thrown around and we slowly walk back to the palace. As we enter the king is standing right by the doors talking to advisors. As he sees us he looks confused.
"What did-you, what?" He questions.
"It's a long story," Ahren answers and we walk away leaving a confused king. When we get to my room he tells me about the wonderful time he had and how he wishes to see me soon. We exchange good byes, a curtsy, a kiss in the hand, then part ways. Have I fallen in love?
A/N: Sorry it took me long to post, I've been busy and all. I hope this chapter is longer. Also go check out my new story that's not a fan-fiction and is better written (I hope). It's called "When he left". Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed!!
