"Honey, you can't trust that this will work. Talent needs to be recognized, you can't just wish on a star and believe it will come true. That's not how it works!" .... "I know Dad, I will work hard. Trust me! I'm not going to come home, I've had a change of heart too... I don't want to be an actress anymore, I want-" ... "Great, you can come home!" ... "Dad, I said I'm not coming home, I'm here for a reason, I want t-" ... "Fine then, don't come home to your family." I put my phone down angrily and huffed, looking around my small apartment, posters everywhere of Broadway films, bands, musicians. I didn't even get to tell him what I wanted to be. He never listens. None of them listen. I'll show them. I promise. I walked outside with my guitar, and sat outside an office, and started strumming, a cup by my side. "You won't find him on Sunset, or at a party in the hills, at the bottom of the bottle, or when you're tripping on some pills. When they sold you the dream you were just sixteen, packed a bag and ran away..." I sang, smiling as people walked by. A little boy walked over and put  £5 note in my cup. I only moved here a month ago. It's been hard, but I've been managing. I mean, I've got an apartment, I can feed myself, I'm happy... I hope. A man walked out of the office, and sat down a few feet away. I looked over at him and smiled, and he smiled back. "You work there?" I asked. "Yeah." He said. "Must be nice to have a real job." I joked. "Eh, 9 till 5 isn't the best, I'll be honest." He shrugged. "Mind if I sit here for a bit?" He asked. "Mhm" I hummed, nodding my head. I strummed my guitar, looking around. Brighton was fairly pretty. "Is this your job?" The man asked. "Yeah, doing my best out here." I smiled. "You move here recently?" He scooted a little closer. "Yeah, just about a month ago, from California" I told him. "My name's Wilbur." He smiled. "I'm Y/N." I responded. "Pretty name." He said. "Yours too." I teased. "Made any friends yet?" He asked. "Haven't really talked to anyone, you're the first person I've attempted to make a conversation with." I laughed. "Consider me your first friend." Wilbur chuckled. "I know we just met- but... after your shift, would you like to hang out?" I asked. "That sounds great. It was nice talking to you, I'd better get back to work." Wilbur said, he got up and went back to work. I smiled to myself as I continued my day. I checked my cup to see how much money I had earned so far. Three ₤5 notes and some pence. I had about ₤22. I sighed, and put the money in my pocket. It was only 4:30pm, I had half an hour till Wilbur came back. I continued playing my guitar. I heard the sound of coins clink in my cup, I smiled and looked up, it was Wilbur. "5:00 already?" I asked with a smile. He nodded and sat down next to me, I put my guitar in it's case, and my money in my pocket. "There's a nice coffee shop around the corner, wanna go? It's on me." He said with a smile. "Sure." I answered. We walked to the coffee shop, and ordered drinks. We sat at a table in the corner near the front window. "So, how long have you been living here?" Wilbur asked. "A few months, how about you?" I responded. "Been here my whole life." He chuckled. "Miss Cali?" ... "A little, but I came here for a reason, even though it may be different now, I'm still staying." I laughed. "What reason might that be?" He asked. "Ever since I was little, I wanted to be an actress, and I have adored England. Brighton was my dream home since I was 14. Now that I'm here, I relearned how to play guitar, and realized I had a passion for music." I explained. "I'm into music too." He smiled. "Do you write songs?" He asked. "I wish I had the time to do that. I'm so busy trying to make money, to keep my apartment, and live my life I don't really have time for things I enjoy. I'd get a real job, but I don't wanna waste my life doing things I don't want to." I told him. "Interesting. Maybe someday you will find time to." Wilbur said sincerely, he put his hand on top of mine and smiled at me. I blushed and looked out the window. "Wish I could even pay the bills." I whispered. "Anyways, make the most of it. Life goes by pretty bloody quick." He responded. We finished our coffees, and walked to my apartment complex. "Hopefully see you tomorrow in the same spot as earlier." Wilbur said as he walked me to my apartment. "I'll be there." I smiled, waving goodbye. I walked into my apartment and looked around before sitting on my bed. I pulled the money out of my pockets to count it, and saw a slip of paper. It read, "Text me. +1 (810) ###-#### -Wilbur :)". I smiled to myself, and pulled out my phone, and texted the number.

I have to say, I'm impressed. How'd you
Manage to sneak that in my pocket?

I have my secrets, Y/N.

How'd you know it's me?

I don't give just anyone my #.
By the way, count ur money.

Let me guess... You snuck that £100
note in there too?

Maybe...

We just met, no need to give me
money.

Oh come on, you were practically
begging out there.

Fair point.

I smiled and put my phone down. I showered, got into pajamas, and watched TV for a bit. My phone buzzed, I looked over and saw a text from Wilbur.

Turn your lights off and go to sleep,
it's late.

How'd you know I was awake?

Cause you answered, genius.

I laughed to myself and put my phone away, turning off my lights, and going to sleep.
