"You're telling me, that this ghost of yours, Jeon Jungkook, was a victim in a murder case?" Seokjin asked incredulously. Jimin and he had both come over to Hoseok's apartment the next day after Hobi's urgent text of,

Come to my house ASAP, things r turning CRAZY

Also... I'm out of salt so pls bring some when u come ovr

"Yes, I literally just said that." Hoseok said as he cleaned dishes at the sink.

"And now you're going on dates with cops and helping interview suspected murderers??" Jimin squeaked, equally incredulous. His eyes were practically bugging out of his head.

This wasn't the Hobi they knew, the Hobi they knew would blanch at the sight of ghosts and run screaming from any sort of involvement in any sort of crime. They told Hobi as much. Hobi decided against telling them they were right.

"Hobi, I hope you're not playing hero just to prove us, or your parents, wrong." Seokjin said earnestly.

"Yeah, hyung, you don't need to prove yourself to anyone." Jimin nodded in agreement, "We love you and we're proud of you for even getting this far with a ghost in your apartment. You don't need to go any farther if it means risking your life. Nothing is worth that." Jimin said coming over to lay an arm across Hoseok's shoulder.

Hobi stopped scrubbing the dishes for a moment. His heart swelled at his best friends' kind words. But he wasn't doing this just because he wanted to play "hero," though maybe a little part of him did want to be a hero for once, it was more than that. Hobi felt like he had a part in this case. He was the only one who had seen Jungkook, potentially the only one that could see Jungkook, and he somehow felt the obligation as the ghost's roommate to find who had done this to him. This Taehyung guy was their best bet.

He said as much to the two brothers, who sighed but didn't press him anymore.

"Just—please be careful." Seokjin said.

"Careful?" Hoseok scoffed, "Careful is my middle name."

Yoongi picked Hoseok up the next morning, two coffees in hand.

"I didn't know what you liked so I just got you mocha. Everyone likes chocolate, right?" Yoongi said as Hobi took the steaming cup from the detective's hand. He, in fact, loved mocha coffee, which he told the detective who tried to mask his smug smile behind a shrug, "I'm a detective, what can I do?"

Yoongi had gotten a hold of Taehyung's new address, which was roughly an hour's drive away from Mapo, where they lived. The car ride wasn't as awkward as Hoseok was expecting at all. True to his date personality, Yoongi was excellent at small talk, and when the conversation died down, he didn't make the silence awkward at all. Hobi was content with staring out the window at the scenery as they passed. He was half worried about meeting a suspected murderer, but he felt a thrill of the unknown as they drove further and further along.

It also helped that a cop was right next to him, though Yoongi wasn't the buffest or the most intimidating man to look at, Hoseok felt safe in his presence nonetheless.

An hour later, they arrived at a quaint looking apartment building. It didn't scream "A murder lives here!" but it would be a perfect place for a murderer incognito.

Yoongi got out of the car immediately after turning it off, but Hoseok found himself hesitating. Was he really ready for this? All his life he had preferred to wait on the sidelines. He wasn't one to run head first into any situation, yet here he was, about to talk to a potential suspect in a serial murder case. The person's name a ghost and murmured.
