National Bee Day

August 17th. National Honey Bee Day. If John thought Sherlock didn't know, if he thought no celebration would ensue, well, he was sorely mistaken. Out of all the parties Sherlock hated, social outings at the bars he avoided.... Bees???

Well, he wasn't quite throwing a party. But still, it was odd for him to be going to the movie theatre not only willingly, but with excitement.

Sadly, John has to miss it because of Mycroft. After all these years, Sherlock's older brother still meddled in their affairs. Mycroft was just as confused as John, but even after their talk, of course he had to go to work.

Well, he'd be the breadwinner today, Sherlock could repay him later. For now, he'd let him and Rosie go and see The Bee Movie.

When he got home in the evening, he saw the two sitting on the couch watching a documentary on bees.

John greeted them each with a kiss on the top of the head before asking, "How was the movie?"

Sherlock paused the TV and looked up at him, an annoyed expression suddenly crossing his face. Rosie also gave a skeptical look.

"That bad, huh?"

The floodgates opened.

"It was awful, John! In the movie, the bees had parents, instead of the true one queen bee, they drove cars for some reason which is much slower than flying, which they are capable of, they wore clothes, most of the worker bees were male which is opposite of the truth, they could speak English, the humans could understand them, they—"

He faltered as John started laughing hysterically, and after Sherlock pursed his lips and raised his eyebrows in irritation, he couldn't help but join in. Soon the whole family was laughing their heads off.

"Well anyways, Poppa thought it would be best if he corrected the damage to my brain by watching a real bee documentary," Rosie finished the tale, imitating Sherlock's voice and no doubt quoting him.

John smiled warmly down at them, then climbed onto the couch with them. He snuggled into Sherlock and pressed play.
