Kamina, before death, had never came to a conclusion on what happens to a living being after death. The question never posed much importance to him. Yet now, as he floats through spaces endless valleys, he wonders if making up his mind would have done him any good.

It was such an embarrassing, horrible way to die. Their fight had only just begun, and so early had he left them behind. Kamina tried his best to keep his hopes that Simon would become strong and move on, but he could never be sure. He hated the feeling of his confidence falling, knowing that all of his big talk had gotten him killed in the end.

He had failed Team Gurren. He failed his friends. He failed Yoko. And most painfully, he had failed Simon.

The stars were so beautiful up close, as bittersweet of a sight they were. Wisps of other souls and deceased wanderers passed by him, crying for themselves and their loved ones, and gradually vanishing as they reached peace. Kamina wanted to join them in rebirth desperately, but he knew that nothing would happen to him until his unfinished business was no longer a threat.

Please, Simon. Realize your strength. Become a leader, for all of our sake.

He heard crying in the distance. The sound was heart-wrenching and lonely and oh-so-fitting for the endless landscape of stars and darkness. Kamina didn't think much of it; he heard these sickening cries every hour of the day (if human time even mattered in outer space), but something inside of him was aching to seek out who the voice belonged to. He turned and walked through the paths of souls; some who turned and recognized him, and some who were too preoccupied to show their faces.

His eyes settled on a person, curled up in a ball and isolated from the others. This was who the cries belonged to, it had to be. Kamina hesitated before reaching his hand out to the person. They seemed so stuck in their own depressed world that he doubted they would even notice him, but they peeked out from their crossed arms and slowly reached out until their hands were interlocked. The person looked at him with a blank expression.

"Have I seen you before, or something?" They asked. Their voice was quiet, almost a whisper. Kamina sighed.

"Yeah, you might just have. Though I don't think that matters much anymore." He chuckled awkwardly. "My name is Kamina, from Giha village. What about you?"

They didn't seem very willing to answer, but they finally spoke up. "My name is Y/N."

Y/N. What a lovely name! "Well, Y/N, I think we should get off the ground now. We'll never get anywhere if we just curl up and cry all day, as fun as that sounds." Kamina smiled and pulled them up to stand. They were so much shorter than him, though Kamina was taller than pretty much everyone.

"Where are we gonna go?" Y/N asked.

"That's the thing, I have no idea. Why don't we find out?"
